Beedie’s Summer Intern, Land Development role in Burnaby offers hands-on exposure to the full land development lifecycle, supporting Development Managers, Civil Design Managers, Project Managers and Coordinators with documentation, cost analysis, permit applications and construction coordination. You’ll prepare RFPs, bid analyses, take offs for servicing and earthworks, source quotations, manage letters of credit and POs, and assist with budgets and meeting minutes. Ideal candidates are pursuing a Civil Engineering or Construction Management degree, with municipal infrastructure or earthworks exposure a plus, strong MS Office skills, and familiarity with Bluebeam, CAD or Civil 3D; a valid BC driver’s license is required. This role offers hands-on experience in land development processes, including project documentation, cost analysis, permit applications, and construction coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare Request for Proposals for consultants and contractors.
- Prepare bid analysis of offsite and onsite infrastructure requirements including earthworks.
- Prepare take offs of servicing and earthwork scopes.
- Source quotations for material supply and installation.
- Prepare preliminary grading and servicing design concepts.
- Letter of credit system management including reductions and coordination with consultants/contractors/municipalities.
- Prepare and manage permit applications.
- Complete BC One Call and review of shallow utilities
- Issue, maintain and organize purchase orders and sub-contracts.
- As-built/report searches at municipalities.
- Expense Reports/Project Cost Reports including reviews of budgets vs. actuals through design and construction.
- Prepare meeting agendas and compile meeting minutes.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Working towards a University degree or college diploma in a related field such as Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
- Experience in municipal infrastructure and/or land development and/or earthworks beneficial
- Familiar with municipal government engineering servicing/subdivision approval processes, and general understanding of municipal servicing and earthworks for quantity estimating
- Proficient in MS Office
- Proficient in Bluebeam, CAD or Civil 3D would be assets
- A valid B.C. driver’s license
