About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Support Coordinator - Children & Young People to join our Family Services Team based at our dedicated refuge for women and children.

This rewarding role supports children and young people impacted by family and domestic violence, helping them build safety, resilience, wellbeing and positive futures.

Working closely with mothers, refuge staff and external service providers, you will provide child-focused support, advocacy, case management and service coordination to address the unique needs of children and young people experiencing complex challenges. Using a trauma-informed, strengths-based and recovery-focused approach, you will support children to achieve positive developmental, educational and social outcomes.

You will also design and deliver children's activities, facilitate school holiday programs, advocate for children's rights and wellbeing, and connect families with services that promote safety, healing and long-term success.

This is a permanent full-time position, working 38hrs per week.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide child-focused, trauma-informed support to children and young people residing within the refuge.
• Assess individual needs and develop support plans aligned to client goals and wellbeing outcomes.
• Advocate for the rights, participation, wellbeing and safety of children and young people.
• Support positive developmental, social, emotional and educational outcomes.
• Coordinate referrals and facilitate access to community, education, health and specialist support services.
• Build and maintain professional relationships with mothers, carers, schools and key stakeholders.
• Develop and deliver children's wellbeing activities and school holiday programs.
• Maintain accurate case notes, client records and reports.
• Contribute to a strengths-based, recovery-focused and culturally responsive service environment.

About You

We welcome applications from professionals with experience in child and family services, family and domestic violence, youth work, community services, social work, case management, homelessness services, mental health support, or related human services settings.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

• Personal goal planning skills that contribute to the achievement of client goals in line with the Model of Care.
• Skills in reflective practice and highly developed report writing using analytical reasoning.
• Ability to support, mentor and work alongside supporting staff members.
• Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office and client management systems.
• Ability to engage and maintain professional relationships with clients and their wider formal and informal supports.
• Demonstrated understanding of the complex issues affecting children, young people and families experiencing family and domestic violence, homelessness, mental health challenges and alcohol and other drug use.
• Experience providing child-focused support, advocacy, case management or support coordination services.
• Commitment to trauma-informed, strengths-based and recovery-focused practice.
• Willingness and ability to work within and contribute to the vision, mission, values and guiding principles of Ruah.

Desirable

• Knowledge and understanding of diversity and social inclusion, including gender, sexuality, disability, cultural, age and linguistic diversity and Aboriginal culture.
• Qualifications in Community Services, Social Work, Youth Work, Psychology, Human Services or a related discipline.
• Relevant work experience and/or lived experience.
