What you'd be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
At the moment, this role is focused on:
- Leading, coaching and developing a highly engaged team of IAM Systems Engineers and an Operations Manager
- Owning the delivery and continuous improvement of secure, reliable and scalable IAM services that Canvanauts rely on every day
- Partnering closely with the Operations Manager to evolve operational practices, service management and team effectiveness
- Leading strategic programs that bring Canva's long-term IAM vision to life, working across IT, Security and Infra
- Reviewing technical designs, change proposals and pull requests, and supporting escalations for complex IAM requests and incidents
- Using operational data and service metrics to spot opportunities, prioritise improvements and measure outcomes
You're probably a match if you:
- Have led and grown high-performing technical teams across local and distributed environments
- Bring a strong track record of coaching, mentoring and developing engineers and emerging leaders
- Bring deep experience in identity and access management, with hands-on knowledge of identity standards and protocols like SCIM, SAML and OpenID Connect
- Give timely, clear and constructive feedback that helps people grow
- Use data and metrics to spot trends, prioritise work and improve service outcomes
- Have configured enterprise identity capabilities such as single sign-on, lifecycle management and multi-factor authentication
- Can communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences alike
- Know how to attract, interview and develop exceptional technical talent
While not required, ideally you also have:
- Experience administering Okta in a large enterprise environment
- Experience implementing or operating identity governance and administration platforms
- Familiarity with Terraform, GitOps or the Okta Terraform Provider
- Experience automating business processes with tools like Workato
- An understanding of infrastructure-as-code practices, with the ability to review code and pull requests at a high level
About the team
The Workforce Access Management team is reimagining Canva's foundational identity infrastructure to make access secure, scalable and simple. We sit within the IT Platform Group, part of the Information Technology Supergroup, and our platforms power identity lifecycle management, SaaS onboarding and offboarding, authentication and MFA, access control and authorisation, access requests and approvals, and user access reviews. You'd be leading a team within a broader Workforce Access Management function of around 14 people.

This role brings together people leadership, technical expertise and operational excellence. You'll help shape Canva's IAM strategy, lead programs that span IT, Security and Infra, and keep evolving the identity foundations that support Canva's growth.
