What we’re looking for
We’re looking for passionate team players to bring joy to our customers every day. As a Tax Assistant, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring Pret prepares and submits accurate and timely tax returns across all our 20+ countries, with a key focus on our core markets (UK, US, FR & HK). This position requires meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical and excel skills, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure to meet deadlines. We are looking for a candidate who has a willingness to learn, who takes responsibility for managing their own work and who works collaboratively across various teams.
Key responsibilities
- Work with the UK & International Tax Manager and other members of the Group Tax team to ensure Pret’s equity and franchise markets remain compliant across all areas of tax: predominantly US Sales Tax/ UK & FR VAT, Corporation Tax (all markets) and other related tax returns.
- Data collection and review to enable preparation of Pret’s monthly/annual tax returns. Full training and support will be provided.
- Support the Grp tax team and Pret’s external tax advisers with the year-end account’s preparation process. Gathering data to support queries from the Audit team and preparation of the tax accounts.
- Assist with franchise corporation tax returns in line with Pret’s global expansion.
- Maintain tax filings and payments calendar – ensure financial records are kept up to date.
- Assist with budgets and forecasting, advisor fees, billing and accruals.
- Manage US state tax portals, e.g. for tax return submissions.
- Maintain international travel tracker.
- Work with the team on weekly VAT reviews across our UK shops and sales tax reviews in the US.
- Arrange and support on key Tax Team meetings and correspondence e.g. with HMRC.
- Maintaining a filing system for Tax post.
- Support with administration, data collection and analysis, communication and tracking on tax audit.
- Collaborate with various departments including IT, Finance, Tech and Operations to ensure taxes are charged, collected, administered and accounted for correctly.
Experience and Skills required
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills – maintain a tax calendar to ensure all deadlines are met.
- Resilient – able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Strong excel skills – quick and efficient at creating reports and manipulating data.
- Able to analyse information and present it in a format that is easily understood by the audience.
- Able to analyse data and take own initiative to solve complex problems and suggest solutions.
- Approachable, confident and personable.
- Experience of IT systems including Business Objects and NetSuite is desirable.
- Prior tax knowledge is a plus, but not essential; candidates will be taught the role.

The interview journey
Every interview process at Pret begins with the same two stages. First, you’ll have a relaxed 30-minute conversation with our recruitment team so we can get to know you and your experience. Next, you’ll be invited to a one-hour, in-person interview with the hiring manager at our Head Office in London Victoria.
Depending on the role and function, there may be additional stages. These could include time spent in one of our shops, completing a task, or meeting a senior leader.
