Tax Assistant Manager
Octopus EnergyOEGen is a specialist energy investment manager overseeing more than £8 billion of assets under management. Its mission is to speed up the shift to a net zero energy system by backing clean energy infrastructure and energy transition businesses across multiple jurisdictions. As the international portfolio grows, the team is looking to strengthen its in-house tax capability with a commercially minded professional who wants to develop within a fast-paced investment environment.
The role sits within Sky Generation, the UK clean energy infrastructure platform of the Sky Fund, which owns and manages several international operating platforms. It’s a strong fit for someone with around four to five years’ corporate tax experience who wants broader international exposure and the chance to grow technical, commercial and project-management skills in an expanding infrastructure investment setting.
The successful candidate will support the Sky Fund’s portfolio and holding structures across multiple jurisdictions, collaborating with investment teams, finance colleagues, portfolio companies and external advisers on a broad range of tax matters, from compliance oversight and reporting to structuring and ongoing portfolio support. This is a hands-on role within a collaborative in-house tax team, offering exposure to international investment structures, cross-border transactions and the full lifecycle of infrastructure investments.
Tax life on international energy investments
Day to day, you’ll help manage tax matters across OEGen funds and their associated holding structures, ensuring coordination of international compliance processes with local advisers in several jurisdictions. You’ll assist with tax reporting, provisioning, and financial statement disclosures, and you’ll contribute to tax workstreams on acquisitions, restructurings and refinancings. When documents come in, you’ll review them from a tax perspective with support from more senior team members as needed, while keeping an eye on tax risks and governance. You’ll work closely with investment, finance, legal and external advisory teams across the business, and you’ll look for ways to improve internal tax processes and documentation as the portfolio evolves.
Your background for the role
Must-haves for the role include these qualifications and experiences. You should have around four to five years working in corporate tax, and hold a professional credential such as CTA or ACA (or be close to qualifying). Experience from a Big 4 firm, international advisory firm, law firm, or in-house tax team is expected, with a solid grounding in tax compliance, reporting and accounting. While exposure to cross-border structures or international tax matters is helpful, deep specialist knowledge isn’t required. An interest in infrastructure, energy or investment management is a plus, and foreign language skills (particularly German, French, Spanish or Italian) are beneficial but not required. Most importantly, the team is looking for someone with strong reasoning skills, solid commercial awareness and a real willingness to learn, someone who could grow into a broader international tax management role alongside experienced senior stakeholders.

Tips to help you stand out
Lead your resume with your corporate tax experience and your near-qualification status if applicable, so the hiring team sees you fit for a broader international scope from the start.
Show concrete examples of tax compliance, reporting and accounting work, ideally tied to cross-border or international structures, and highlight any involvement in acquisitions, restructurings or refinancings to illustrate your ability to support complex transactions.
Prepare to discuss how you collaborate with investment, finance, legal and external advisers, and be ready to talk through governance and risk management in multi-jurisdiction contexts.
Ask a targeted question about how the tax team coordinates across the Sky Fund’s portfolio and what success looks like in the role, such as how they measure tax governance improvements or the impact of cross-border structuring on portfolio performance.
