Job Description

Griffith University's Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics brings together Griffith’s formidable strengths in biomedical research. By combining the outstanding discovery and translational research, infrastructure, and training expertise of the Griffith Institute for Drug Discovery, the Institute for Glycomics and biomedical teams from within the former Menzies Health Institute Queensland we will deliver real and immediate impacts locally and globally, transforming the lives of people around the world, especially those in disadvantaged communities.

The Technical Officer is responsible for the day-to-day operational support of PC2, chemistry and other laboratories within the Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics. This includes equipment support, maintenance, compliance and general health and safety.  

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Regular maintenance of instruments and troubleshooting equipment problems to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Ensuring stocks of general and specific consumables for the core instruments and PPE are maintained.
  • Submitting maintenance requests as required.
  • Assist with refurbishment, modification and installation of new equipment as and when required and assist in the process qualification of equipment.
  • Assisting with compliance tasks required to maintain certification of the laboratories, general laboratory and maintenance support.

About you
The successful candidate will hold relevant tertiary qualifications in chemical or biological science and/or work experience in physical containment, biosecurity containment and/or chemistry laboratory operations and compliance. 

You will have relevant experience in maintaining laboratory safety standards, managing equipment maintenance and developing operation/instruction laboratory manuals (e.g. SOPs, risk assessments, training Registers).

This is a fixed term (two years), full-time position and will be primarily based at Griffith University Gold Coast. As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations. Griffith University’s campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.

Salary Range
The base salary for a HEW Level 5 is in the range $79,705 to $89,416 per annum, plus 17% employer superannuation. The total package is in the range $93,255 to $104,617 per annum.
