The Testing and Commissioning - SCADA Lead will be a key member of the Rail and Systems team, reporting to the Package Manager, and supporting the day-to-day activities for the delivery of the assigned System package within the project’s allotted time, budget, quality, and safety requirements. This role encompasses the full lifecycle of the system, from design coordination through construction, testing, commissioning (T&C), and post-construction activities until final handover. In addition to general T&C responsibilities, the successful candidate will have proven experience in SCADA systems for rail infrastructure, ensuring reliability, integration, and operational readiness of the control systems across the LRT network.
• Diploma or degree in Engineering, Technology, Computer Science, or related field. A combination of experience and education will be considered.
• Additional qualifications in project management (e.g., PMP, Prince2) are a plus.
• Minimum 10 years in rail or infrastructure projects with at least 3 years of experience with Systems (e.g., TCS, TRPS, ATP, CTC, etc.), including practical SCADA integration and commissioning experience.
• Experience with Tram/LRT systems is an asset.
• A background in systems engineering, requirements management, and verification & validation (V&V) processes is highly desirable.
Skills, Competencies, Attributes
• Strong understanding of interfaces between SCADA systems, other rail systems, facilities, and vehicles (e.g., Light Rail Vehicle), and experience in system integration.
• Knowledge of safety protocols in rail operations and T&C phases.
• Excellent communication skills in English (French is a plus) and proficiency in documentation and reporting tools.
• Familiarity with the AFP/PPP/P3 construction project models, along with hands-on experience in testing and commissioning, particularly in railway or large infrastructure projects.
• Previous leadership experience, including managing teams and subcontractors, is essential.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams.
• Proficient in interfacing with stakeholders at all levels and in a variety of technical disciplines.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety, especially in dynamic testing and energization phases.
• Ability to adapt and apply lessons learned to improve processes and overcome project challenges.
• Ability to negotiate the terrain of an in-process construction site, including climbing stairs and ladders, steep/ slippery terrain, walking, and working outdoors in all types of Edmonton weather and conditions.
