Tronc Services Administrator
Moore Kingston SmithCrunching numbers for tips and service charges
Moore Kingston Smith is seeking a Tronc & Payroll Services Administrator to join the WMT Troncmaster Services team within its Employer Services group. The role sits in St Albans and offers a hybrid working pattern, with a permanent full-time contract. This is a chance to contribute to a well-established professional services firm that supports hospitality clients across the UK.
The right person will be highly organized, numerate and comfortable working with data. You’ll bring strong Excel skills, a keen eye for detail, and a client-first attitude whether you’re answering questions or reconciling data. Full training on our systems and the relevant legislation is provided, so prior tronc experience isn’t required but a data-heavy mindset and a love of precision will help you hit the ground running.
In practical terms, your days revolve around data: you’ll process client data to calculate tips, service charges and other gratuities, and ensure distributions happen accurately and on time. You’ll work with large spreadsheets to check, sort and interpret information, and you’ll assist with budgets once you’ve completed your initial training. Client queries will be part of your week, and you’ll need to communicate clearly and professionally while building solid relationships with your allocated client portfolio. All records live in a fully digital filing system, so staying organised and indexing documents correctly is part of the job.
What you’ll bring to the role
Here's what the team is looking for in terms of must‑haves and relevant experience.
- Strong Excel ability at an intermediate level or higher, including confidence with VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, IF formulas and Pivot Tables.
- A solid numerical aptitude and ease with working through data sets.
- Experience in payroll, finance administration, data processing, hospitality administration or a similar, process-driven environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and a track record of accuracy in data work.
- Effective time management with the ability to meet deadlines and handle competing priorities.
- A customer-focused mindset and professional communication skills.
- The discipline to follow structured processes while spotting information that looks incorrect.
- A calm, organised and methodical approach to tasks.
- A willingness to learn the specialist tronc processes and related legislation.
Nice-to-haves
Not essential, but worth mentioning if you have it.
- Payroll experience is not essential, but it would be highly beneficial since the workflow aligns with data accuracy and deadline-driven tasks.
Compensation and how it fits into your week
The role offers a salary of £30,000 per year. It’s based in St Albans and carried out as a permanent, full‑time position with hybrid working arrangements. The department is WMT Troncmaster Services, a leading provider of tronc solutions to hospitality clients, and the team is part of Moore Kingston Smith’s Employer Services group.
Application deadline: 30 October 2026. As part of the selection process, candidates may be asked to complete assessments covering numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning and logic to help gauge suitability for a data‑driven role with deadlines and client information.
Tips for applicants
Lead your résumé with the exact Excel skills that matter here, and show where you’ve used them with real data tasks. If you’ve built Pivot Tables, used VLOOKUP or XLOOKUP, or written IF formulas to validate data in a time‑sensitive setting, give a concise example in your experience section.
Demonstrate your numerical ability and comfort with data by describing a concrete project where you processed large datasets, checked for accuracy, and delivered a timely result that supported a client or team decision. If you’ve handled payroll or finance data, share how you safeguarded accuracy and met deadlines.
Prepare for the assessments by picturing how you approach numerical, verbal and logical questions in a work context. Think of a few past work situations where you had to interpret data under pressure, then relate those examples to what the role requires and the kinds of questions you might face.
When you reach the interview, plan a smart question to ask about training on tronc processes and legislation, and about the client portfolio you’d support. For example, you could ask how the team stays up to date with changes in tronc regulations and how they tailor processes for different hospitality clients. It shows you’re thinking about how to apply the role to real clients and scenarios.
