Summary

The Unreal Engine Animator creates animated characters and objects that meet required direction by utilizing traditional animation methods and real-time computer graphics systems. This role supports the development of next-generation animation workflows through hands-on performance creation within Unreal Engine. Emphasis is placed on conveying emotion through body language, facial expressions, and dialogue while meeting production schedules and deadlines. You will work closely with the Animation Director and technical teams to test, validate, and refine new approaches to character performance in a real-time environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Create high-quality character animation that meets studio standards for performance and storytelling.
  • Utilize Unreal Engine tools (Sequencer, Control Rig) to generate shot-ready work.
  • Establish and maintain believable acting, timing, and emotional clarity in performances.
  • Participate in dailies, rounds, and team reviews, providing and receiving actionable feedback.
  • Collaborate with Workflow TDs and engineers to test and refine animation pipelines and toolsets.
  • Problem-solve technical and creative challenges during the animation process.
  • Accountable for meeting production schedules and show deadlines.

Requirements

  • Animation Expertise: Strong understanding of the principles of animation, including physical motion, weight, balance, and form.
  • Software Proficiency: Deep knowledge of Maya and Unreal Engine (specifically Sequencer and Control Rig) is required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3–5+ years of production experience in feature film animation or high-end episodic work.
  • Artistic Foundation: Background in fine art, knowledge of human and animal anatomy, and life drawing skills are highly desired.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with real-time rendering, linear content creation, and real-time animation constraints.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A drive and curiosity for developing new techniques, workflows, and tools
  • Knowledge of performance capture animation and Live Link integration.
  • Python scripting knowledge for workflow automation is a plus.

The anticipated base salary for mid level position is $36.06 to $45.67/hr and a senior level position is $45.07 to $56.49/hr. Benefits are per company policy: which include healthcare, tuition reimbursement, RRSP's, Sick and Vacation leave, standard increases as applicable. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position.
