Downer is looking for an experienced Utility GPR Locator to join the Underground Service Locators team in Auckland. This full-time onsite field role uses ground penetrating radar and mapping equipment, plus GIS, to locate and map underground utilities, read network plans and deliver accurate data and practical advice to customers. You’ll enjoy varied outdoor work, solve technical problems across sites and manage jobs in the field. Requirements include at least two years in utilities or telecommunications, knowledge of underground networks, GIS experience (Esri ArcGIS preferred), and a full NZ driver’s licence with fitness for fieldwork. We’re looking for an experienced Utility GPR Locator to join our Underground Service Locators team in Auckland.

Using specialist locating, Ground Penetrating Radar and mapping equipment, you’ll identify underground services and provide accurate information customers can trust.

This is a practical field role with plenty of variety. You’ll work outdoors, solve technical problems and manage jobs across different sites.

In this role, you’ll:

• Locate and map underground utilities
• Operate GPR and service-locating equipment
• Read and interpret network plans
• Capture accurate field and GIS data
• Produce clear reports and site documentation
• Provide practical advice to customers

Ngā pūkenga matua | What we’re looking for
Someone who enjoys solving problems, working outdoors and getting the details right. You can confidently manage jobs in the field while staying connected with customers and the wider team.

You’ll bring:

• Experience in utility locating, telecommunications or GIS
• At least two years’ utilities or telecommunications experience
• Knowledge of underground networks and infrastructure
• Confidence reading network and service plans
• GIS experience, ideally with Esri ArcGIS
• A full New Zealand driver licence
• You’ll also need to be physically fit for fieldwork, including digging when required
