Miral Experiences is seeking a Veterinary Technician to join SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, full-time on-site in the United Arab Emirates. You will support SeaWorld Abu Dhabi's animal care and back the marine life rescue and rehabilitation program, assisting with treatments, coordinating procedures, administering medications, monitoring welfare, and assisting in emergencies, while keeping medical areas clean and maintaining records. Essential qualifications include a Veterinary Nursing Diploma or degree or equivalent, UAE licensure if required, at least two years in a veterinary hospital, excellent English and teamwork, and flexibility to work shifts. About the Role
To provide comprehensive veterinary care to the SeaWorld Abu Dhabi (SWAD) animal population (mammals, fish, reptiles, birds, and invertebrates) as well as providing support for the affiliated regional marine life rescue and rehabilitation program.
The post holder is integral to the maintenance of SeaWorld’s high animal welfare standards and to the advancement of the field and science of marine animal health. This role will assist and participate in the animal welfare program and play an active role in research opportunities at SWAD.
Key Responsibilities
Assists with veterinary treatments and procedures for all aspects of SeaWorld Abu Dhabi’s collection as directed by Veterinarian
Restraint of patients for procedures performed by veterinary staff
Coordinates medical procedures, treatment, routine husbandry behavioral scheduling and other protocols as directed by the leadership teams
Administer injections or Oral medication in accordance with Hospital Policy
Observes animal behaviour and/or health conditions, and reports finding to Veterinarian, and Hospital Management
Assisting in emergency veterinary cases
Maintains and cleans the medical areas, kennels, surgical room, and equipment. Housekeeping and Laundry as required.
Performs pharmaceutical and medical supplies inventories and updates the tracker accordingly
Participates in the medical care and rehabilitation of rescued wildlife including but not limited to marine mammals including dugongs and cetaceans, avian species, reptiles, and marine life
Assists with anesthetic procedures, radiology procedures, collection of veterinary samples, and preparation of samples for diagnostic testing. Including general maintenance of veterinary machinery
Maintaining Sterilization protocol via autoclave systems for surgical kits and instruments
Consults and educates the animal colleagues, leadership teams and occasionally guests, in areas of health, welfare, and husbandry
Assists with animal health research projects and prepares data results for presentations and peer-reviewed publications
Liaising with Nutritional Support staff, Laboratory Diagnostic team, and Animal Care staff
Assists in maintaining all animal records, in Tracks Software, or data systems
Assists in the field for rescues, health assessments and field research with various species when required
Works in varying shifts/hours based on business need, to include opening, mid-, and closing shifts; weekends, and holidays
Lifts, carries, pushes, pulls up to 50 lbs / 20kg on occasion; extensive walking or standing indoors or outdoors; tasks that involve repetitive motions such as bending, stooping, or lifting
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
Veterinary Nursing Diploma/Degree, in a related field or equivalent
Ability to obtain a license or certification for veterinary nursing technician in the UAE as required
At least 2 years of proven experience in a veterinary hospital as a veterinary nursing technician
Excellent English communication skills and teamwork abilities
Ability to be flexible and adapt quickly as the needs of the animal collection develop
Knowledge in current computer application, including in MS Office
Basic mathematical skills
Desirable
Board eligibility, Member or Diplomat status of a recognized Veterinary statutory/ professional body
Familiar with professional zoo/aquarium communities and non-domestic species
Previous experience with data entry, various hematology and reproductive analyzers and equipment maintenance schedules
