Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a temporary Visual Field Technician 2 to join the Eye Care Centre onsite in Vancouver, performing visual field testing on automated and manual platforms (Sita and Goldman) along with dark adaptation and color vision testing, while mentoring Visual Field Assistants. The ideal candidate holds a recognized ophthalmic technology credential with two years of related experience or an equivalent mix of education and training, plus strong communication, supervisory, and equipment operation skills. The role requires client centered care, physical ability, and may require a criminal records check, with hours subject to change. JOB SUMMARY:Within the context of a client and family centred care model and in accordance with the established vision and values of the organization, works as a member of the Eye Care Centre team, performs complex diagnostic ophthalmic procedures and assessments. Performs visual field and other ophthalmic tests on patients utilizing automated and manual tests (Sita/Full Goldman), dark adaptation, occupational colour vision tests and provides test and treatment information for interpretation by medical staff. Provides work direction to Visual Fields Assistants and other designated staff, as required. Provides demonstration/teaching to Visual Field Assistants in learning how to administer the basic Goldman and other related tests, as required. Reviews and ensures that the tests are performed properly, as required.QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience Graduation from a recognized program in ophthalmic technology, plus two year’s recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesAbility to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.Ability to deal with others effectively.Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.Ability to supervise Ability to organize work.Ability to operate related equipment.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
