Downer is seeking a Water Service Person for the Kaipara District, based in Dargaville with coverage across Mangawhai and Maungaturoto. You'll join a local crew delivering planned and reactive maintenance across water, wastewater and stormwater networks and pump stations, respond to faults, complete reinstatement work, and record accurate field data. The role offers practical training, development toward greater independence, and the chance to see the daily impact of your work on communities. We’re looking for someone reliable, eager to learn, and comfortable outdoors with practical problem solving, strong communication and safety awareness. Te kōwhiringa | The opportunity
Join our local crew delivering planned and reactive maintenance across water, wastewater and stormwater networks, including pump stations. You’ll respond to faults, complete repairs and reinstatement work, and provide great service to customers and the community across the Kaipara district within Mangawhai and Maungaturoto. 

You’ll receive practical training and support to grow your skills. As your experience develops, you’ll take on more responsibility and independence. 

In this role, you’ll:

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across water, wastewater and stormwater networks
  • Respond to network faults, service requests, incidents and urgent call-outs
  • Support repairs and maintenance on pipelines, network assets and pump stations
  • Complete reinstatement work and leave sites safe, tidy and ready for the community
  • Record accurate job information, field data and as-built documentation
  • Participate in the standby and call-out roster when required 
     

Ngā pūkenga matua | What we’re looking for
You don’t need to know everything on day one. We’re looking for someone who is reliable, keen to learn and prepared to roll up their sleeves. You’ll enjoy working outdoors, solving practical problems and supporting the crew when the pressure is on.

You’ll bring:

  • Experience in water services, drainage, civil construction or infrastructure work, or a strong interest in learning the industry
  • Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to work safely around live networks
  • A team-first attitude and the confidence to work independently as your skills develop
  • Clear communication skills and a respectful approach when dealing with customers and the public
  • Confidence using a mobile device to record job information and complete documentation
  • A full Class 1 New Zealand driver licence, with Class 2 and WTR endorsements advantageous
