Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role 

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting Wellbeing Navigators to join the  Student Wellbeing team on a casual contract. The role of a Wellbeing Navigator is to provide peer wellbeing support through engaging students in conversation and activities. It is also to empower students to make the most of support that can enhance their personal wellbeing, e.g. self-help resources and services available at University. 

Key responsibilities:

Wellbeing Navigators are expected to: 

  • Welcome students and actively engage them in conversation, activities and the wider Bubble community. Provide peer wellbeing support.
  • Assist students to access appropriate support services and make referrals when required. 
  • Promote social connection, belonging, and engagement among students.
  • Respond appropriately to disrespectful, disruptive, or unsafe behaviour, seeking support when required. 
  • Promote healthy, balanced and sustainable approaches to wellbeing.
  • Facilitate activities and maintain spaces that are inclusive, positive and socially engaging.
  • Promote Manawa Ora-Student Wellbeing through lecture presentations, events, the Student Support Hub, and the Student Equity and Wellbeing social media account. 
  • Attend training and team meetings throughout the year.
  • Respond to communication from supervisor and manager.  
  • Complete timesheets and other required administrative tasks accurately and on time. 
  • Support the implementation of Ki te rā: Student Wellbeing Outcomes Framework.  

 

Ō pūmanawa - About you

Key requirements:

  • Current student at Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellbeing. 
  • Available to attend training from 10-12 February 2027. 
  • Available to work 3-6 hours per week during Trimester 1 and 2 teaching periods. 
  • Reliable and able to attend rostered shifts, meetings, and training. 
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in a tertiary education context. 
  • Experience in peer support, mentoring, facilitation, customer service, or other people-focused roles. 
  • Knowledge of, or interest in, student wellbeing and the university environment. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and sound judgement. 
  • Ability to work respectfully with people from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and identities, including Māori, Pasifika, rainbow, gender-diverse, refugee-background, disabled, and international communities.
  • Adaptable, collaborative, and able to work effectively in a team environment.
