Liebherr Machines Bulle SA is seeking a Young Talent to join its Technical Development team for a 12‑month internship beginning in February 2027. The position is onsite in Bulle and offers hands-on exposure to engine development for defense applications within an international engineering setting. The company functions as a centre of competence for combustion engines and hydraulic components, delivering products used across civil engineering, mining, agriculture, decentralized energy, mechanical and industrial engineering, and aviation.

The opportunity is well-suited for students or recent graduates who want to turn classroom theory into real-world engine work and enjoy collaborating with engineers across different disciplines in a global company. It’s a chance to gain practical experience in a multi‑national environment while building a foundation in technical development for engines used in defense contexts.

For those who crave a role that blends hands-on testing, design thinking and cross‑functional teamwork, this internship provides a clear path to grow within an engineering culture that values measurement, analysis and continuous improvement.

Hands-on engine development in a collaborative lab

You’ll support technical development projects for combustion engines dedicated to defense applications, guiding work from concept through validation and system integration. The role also involves coordinating engineering activities to keep projects aligned with requirements, timelines and deliverables, while translating technical and customer needs into concrete actions. You’ll help develop and apply engineering tools and methodologies, including reliability analysis and documentation practices, and you’ll collaborate with teams across simulation, electronics and testing to drive product improvements. In addition, you’ll contribute to technical investigations, problem-solving efforts and the preparation of technical reports and presentations.

What you’ll need to bring to the table

Here's what the team is looking for:

  • Currently pursuing or recently finished a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, industrial engineering or a closely related technical field
  • Genuine interest in combustion engines and mechanical systems, with a passion for technical development
  • Solid analytical abilities and a methodical, detail‑oriented approach to solving problems
  • Proactive, curious mindset and a desire to learn in a multidisciplinary engineering environment
  • Fluent in English; knowledge of French and/or German is helpful
  • Proficient with MS Office; familiarity with engineering or project management tools is a plus

Nice to have:

  • Additional language skills beyond English (French or German)
  • Experience with engineering or project management tools beyond MS Office

Practical details you should know

This is a full‑time, onsite internship lasting 12 months, with a start in February 2027 in Bulle. The role is subject to a background check conducted by our partner Aequivalent.

Tips to stand out for this Young Talent role

Put a project at the top of your resume that shows you moved from concept through testing to integration in an engine‑related area, so the reviewer sees you’re comfortable with the full lifecycle the role requires.

Back up the must‑have skills with a concrete example where you used a structured problem‑solving approach in a multidisciplinary setting, and include any reliability analyses or technical documentation you produced.

In interviews, be ready to discuss how you’d coordinate work with teams in simulation, electronics and testing to translate requirements into actionable tasks, citing a real project where you aligned activities with a timeline.

Ask about the tools the team uses for engineering or project management and inquire how defense engine projects are structured from concept to integration, to understand where you’d contribute most and how you’ll learn.
