Keeping the store humming in Rockford

When the Store Manager isn’t on site, you step in as the manager on duty for scheduling issues, customer concerns, and day-to-day decisions. You’ll guide the sales team through LIDS Training Programs, set goals for sales and tasks, and follow up to ensure progress while the manager is away. You’ll support recruitment and training efforts to build capable, brand-aligned staff and you’ll model the brand standards in appearance and behavior.

You’ll help maintain a respectful, inclusive team environment by fostering positive working relationships and enforcing company policies and security practices, including safeguarding inventory and cash. You’ll handle staffing needs and call in associates during peak times to keep the store productive, tackling other duties as needed to keep operations smooth.

Beyond people management, you’ll own the customer experience by executing the selling strategy, resolving feedback and escalations on the spot, and educating customers about Lids membership programs and live-in-store offers. You’ll also stay aligned with visual guidelines to ensure clean merchandising, signage, and store cleanliness, and maintain a professional look that matches the company dress code.

What you’ll need to bring to the role

  • A proven track record of delivering sales results while minimizing loss
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and professionally
  • Ability to work effectively without direct supervision

There’s ongoing career development through discounted education opportunities, a collaborative team environment, and options for early wage access alongside uncapped monthly bonus potential.

The position is part-time and onsite in Rockford. Legal work authorization is required for employment in the country of hire, and current or future visa sponsorship is not available for this role. The physical demands include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, climb a ladder occasionally, stand and walk frequently during shifts, and operate a computer and store POS systems as part of daily duties.

Tips to help you stand out for this role

On your resume, lead with leadership and store-operations experience that shows you’ve acted as Manager on Duty, including scheduling and staffing decisions and handling issues when a manager isn’t on site.

To prove the must-have skills, include concrete examples of driving sales while keeping shrink in check, along with moments where you resolved customer escalations to “make it right.” Highlight how you communicate with customers and teammates and any independent projects where you kept operations running smoothly without direct supervision.

In interviews, be ready to discuss how you would execute the selling strategy, manage cash handling and till procedures, and support inventory audits to maintain accuracy. You should also describe how you’d maintain the store’s look in line with visual merchandising standards and company policies.

A smart question to ask is which two KPIs matter most for the Rockford location right now and how the assistant store manager contributes to achieving them. You could also ask about the training resources available to help you grow into this leadership role and how promotions from within the store are handled.
