The Independents is a London-based, global marketing, design and communications group that grew from a 2017 merger between Karla Otto and K2. Karla Otto itself, founded in 1982, has built a broad footprint across 15 key cities in the UK, EMEA, US and Asia, with a deep emphasis on fashion, beauty and lifestyle. The Independents now brings together a team of strategists, designers, planners and publicists who share a commitment to thoughtful collaboration and excellent results for luxury clients.

They are looking to add an Account Coordinator, Fashion Communications to the London office. This is a full-time, onsite role that sits at the heart of the fashion communications practice, offering exposure to press and showroom work on high-profile fashion, beauty and lifestyle brands. It’s a good fit for someone who has worked as an Accounts Assistant or PR Assistant in a fast-paced environment and who loves fashion, culture and culture-driven storytelling.

Ideal candidates will bring a hands-on approach, strong writing, and a genuine curiosity for how culture, arts, fashion and lifestyle can elevate client campaigns. The right person will help build lasting relationships with press and collaborators, while supporting senior team members on strategy, delivery and reporting.

A slice of the daily rhythm in the fashion studio

In this role you’ll help shape creative media materials, writing and refining press releases and copy, crafting well-targeted mailers, and pitching stories tied to product launches and events so clients stay visible in the media. You’ll also take the lead in showroom appointments, recognising how these events build real press connections and relationships with editors and stylists.

On the operations side, you’ll oversee the daily Sample Trafficking process with Account Assistants and Interns, ensuring requests are prioritised, the workflow runs smoothly, and any issues are escalated to the relevant teams in communications and logistics. You’ll manage day-to-day workloads, assigning priorities to junior staff based on client needs and current commitments.

Part of client management involves checking credit levels and collaborating with Account Managers to maintain or exceed agreed levels of media coverage. When Account Managers aren’t available, you’ll communicate with client stakeholders in a calm, reassuring way that aligns with the Karla Otto brand. You’ll support asset management to ensure deliverables meet ROI expectations and raise concerns and solutions to the appropriate Account Manager when needed. You’ll also help prepare agendas, capture meeting minutes and provide media updates for client calls, and you’ll contribute to competitive analysis that informs business decisions for the wider team.

What you’ll need to bring to the table

  • Must-have: proven experience as an Accounts Assistant or PR Assistant in a fast-paced agency or in-house setting

  • Must-have: a genuine interest in culture, arts, fashion and lifestyle, with the ability to speak to how these areas can boost client offerings

  • Nice-to-have: experience guiding junior team members or interns in a busy PR setting

  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with asset management processes and understanding how to report ROI on campaigns
