Apprentice Storesperson
Network PlusNetwork Plus is hiring for an Apprentice Storesperson to join the team in Alfreton, on site. This full-time role sits within a project connected to National Grid and is paid at £33,046 per year. The company describes it as the kind of role where you learn by doing, with a clear path to grow into a Storesperson position over time and support along the way.
The apprenticeship is built for someone who likes practical, hands-on work and wants to build a career in materials handling. You’ll be responsible for the movement of goods within the yard and stores, coordinating with supervisors and field crews to ensure the right equipment and supplies are available where they’re needed. If you enjoy a role that combines organisation, safety and teamwork, this could be a good fit.
While the posting notes a focus on progress and development, the day-to-day is rooted in keeping a tidy, well-run depot and delivering reliable service to operations teams on site.
Keeping the yard in order
On a typical day you’ll establish and monitor the locations of depots and stores, keeping the yard tidy and easy to navigate. You’ll work closely with supervisors to make sure stock is issued to Operations teams accurately and promptly.
You’ll record stock movements in Sage as items are issued, and you’ll check stock levels regularly to prevent shortages or overstock. The role also involves storing, cataloguing and distributing supplies, organising for collection or delivery of equipment and packages, and keeping an eye on delivery specs and supplier performance to support smooth operations.
Part of the responsibilities is ensuring the availability of PPE and maintaining a safe working environment in the yard, while making sure quantities of unpacked supplies align with delivery notes and purchase orders. Health, safety and compliance are integral to the daily routine as well.
Must-have qualities
- A genuine interest in stores, stock control and yard operations, with a readiness to learn and progress into a Storesperson role
- Ability to maintain accurate stock records and to log stock issued in Sage
- A practical approach to health, safety and compliance in the yard, and to coordinating with Operations staff and suppliers
Nice-to-haves
- Previous exposure to inventory control or warehouse tasks
- Familiarity with handling delivery notes, purchase orders and basic stock checks

Tips for applicants
Put the apprenticeship angle up front on your resume. Lead with any hands-on experience you have with stores, stock control, or yard work, and mention your interest in growing into a Storesperson role with support along the way.
Show how you’d handle the must-haves. Describe examples where you have kept stock records accurate and used a system to log stock issued, or where you contributed to safe, compliant yard operations and coordinated with multiple teams.
Prepare for the interview by thinking through concrete scenarios. Be ready to explain how you would maintain a tidy depot, verify delivery notes against purchase orders, and ensure PPE availability to keep everyone safe on site.
Ask a focused question that ties to the role’s growth path. For instance, inquire about the training plan for Sage use and the specific steps that lead from an Apprentice Storesperson to a full Storesperson role.
