Assembly Technician - Electronics Manufacturing
Advanced NavigationThe Work in Focus for the Assembly Technician Role
Advanced Navigation, a leader in AI robotics and navigation technologies across land, air, sea and space applications, is seeking an Assembly Technician to join its Botany, Australia site on a full-time, onsite basis. The company has built its reputation on research-driven innovation and aims to be the catalyst of the autonomy revolution, serving major clients in aerospace, automotive and technology sectors.
As the Assembly Technician, you’ll be part of a skilled production team responsible for the assembly, calibration and testing of complex electronic and optics hardware. The team works closely with engineers and researchers to keep production moving and to refine assembly methods as products evolve. This role suits hands-on technicians who take pride in precision and quality and want to grow with a company that collaborates with industry leaders like Airbus, Boeing, Google, Tesla, NASA, Apple and General Motors.
On-site in Botany, you’ll contribute to a fast-moving environment where careful workmanship and clear problem-solving are valued. If you’re motivated by mastering new technologies and taking on a range of tasks, this could be a strong next step in your manufacturing career.
Day-to-day work revolves around assembling, calibrating and testing electronic and optics assemblies, often requiring precise bonding with adhesives to seal or secure components. You’ll verify performance and document results so that designs translate into reliable hardware that meets exact specifications.
You’ll also collaborate with the Engineering R&D team to develop new assembly processes and techniques, helping to draft procedures that keep production consistent as product designs shift. This partnership helps ensure manufacturing stays efficient while delivering high-quality outcomes.
Part of the role involves supporting production logistics, including managing components and inventory for electrical assemblies, performing routine maintenance on electrical and optical assembly equipment, and packing semi-finished goods for safe transport while conducting process-quality inspections along the way.
This position offers room to grow as Advanced Navigation continues to evolve, with opportunities to broaden skills across related areas and deepen expertise in a speciality industry.
The Right Candidate for the Assembly Technician Role
Must-have requirements include at least two years of hands-on electronic and electrical assembly experience in a precision manufacturing environment, plus the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and work instructions. A strong focus on quality with high attention to detail, and solid visual and mechanical dexterity for inspection, handling, cleaning and soldering, are essential. Basic computer skills, such as Microsoft Excel and Outlook, and familiarity with lab equipment are expected, along with a willingness to learn the products in a speciality industry. Strong communication within a multidisciplinary team, self-motivation, reliability and a good work ethic are also important, as is a solid grasp of WHS practices. An electronic or optical qualification or a similar credential is preferred.
Nice-to-have qualifications include experience collaborating with Engineering R&D to develop new assembly processes and techniques, helping with the development and documentation of procedures, and some exposure to inventory management and maintenance of electrical and optical assembly tools.
Advice for Applicants for the Assembly Technician Role
Put your two-plus years of electronic and electrical assembly experience and your track record with high-value precision products at the top of your resume, and lead with your ability to read mechanical drawings.
In your examples, demonstrate how you have assembled, calibrated and tested electronic and optics assemblies, including how you used adhesives to bond and seal and how you verified performance against specifications.
Be ready to discuss your work with multidisciplinary teams, especially any collaboration with R&D or process documentation, and how you maintain rigorous quality and safety in a production setting.
Ask a smart question about how the team partners with Engineering R&D to develop new assembly processes and what growth or training opportunities the role may offer as Advanced Navigation expands.
