We are currently seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant to join our team on a 6-month fixed-term contract role.
Job Description
The Assistant Accountant supports the finance function by ensuring accurate and timely processing of financial transactions, month‑end activities, and reporting. This role works closely with the wider finance team to maintain high‑quality accounting records, support audit requirements, and contribute to continuous process improvements across the organisation.
Responsibilities:
- Month-End Processes: Prepare and process month-end accruals, prepayments, and provisions to ensure accurate financial reporting. Assist with balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring all accounts are accurate, up to date, and properly supported.
- Fixed Assets: Assist with fixed asset processing, capitalisation, maintenance of the fixed asset register, and related reconciliations.
- Accounts Receivable & Intercompany: Manage accounts receivable processing, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing and receipting. Process intercompany transactions, ensuring correct coding, reconciliation, and documentation across related entities.
- Credit Card & Payments: Manage and reconcile company credit card transactions, ensuring accurate coding and supporting documentation.
- General Ledger & Journals: Assist with journaling practice cost reallocations to the correct cost centres.
- Operational Support: Assist with preparing and sending practice stock take templates and communications. Support the team with audit queries, providing documentation and explanations as needed.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to business process improvements, identifying opportunities to streamline, automate, or enhance finance workflows.
Qualifications
- Studying towards or recently completed an accounting or finance qualification
- Experience in a similar finance or accounting support role (2-3 years preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good understanding of accounting principles
- Proficient in Excel and financial systems (experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 advantageous)
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong communication skills and willingness to learn
