Endeavour Group oversees a broad network of hospitality brands, and it’s looking for an on-site Assistant Manager to run the floor at the Commercial Hotel in Nerang, on the Gold Coast hinterland. This full-time role suits someone who loves classic pub culture, thrives in a fast-moving environment, and is ready to lead a sizeable team through busy shifts while maintaining a high standard of service. The venue is a busy local hub, and the right person will help keep the pub’s vibe warm and welcoming for regulars and new customers alike.

Known locally as “The Commie,” the Commercial Hotel is a buzzing centerpiece where every shift brings action, from the dinner rush in the bistro, to high-tempo sports trade during live games, to managing floor flow across gaming and public bar spaces. The job calls for a leader who can balance guest experience with operational discipline, ensuring the venue looks sharp, service stays tight, and the community atmosphere remains strong throughout every shift.

If you’re keen to learn, lead, and bring a bit of laughter to a lively pub, this role could be a great fit. It puts you at the heart of a hospitality operation that values people as much as guests, with plenty of opportunity to grow within ALH Hotels and the broader Endeavour Group network.

Shaping the shift on a busy pub floor

A day in this role centers on getting to know the regulars and keeping the pub running smoothly, safely, and with a great vibe. You’ll work closely with the Publican to maintain high standards and a positive atmosphere, while you learn the ropes of Publican duties yourself and lead a team of hospitality staff. When hiccups arise, you’ll step in to resolve them before they escalate, and you’ll bring energy, top-notch service, and smiles to every shift, no matter how busy it gets.

Your responsibilities revolve around keeping operation and guest experience aligned. You’ll help manage floor flow across the dining, gaming, and public bar spaces, ensuring the venue presents well and guests feel welcome from first hello to last goodbye. The role demands a floor-focused leader who can stay composed, communicate clearly with staff, and keep service standards sharp during peak periods.

What you need to bring to the floor

Two must-have requirements establish the baseline for this role:

  • You must be able to perform physical tasks as part of regular duties, including manual handling and lifting of stock, kegs and deliveries, and you must do so safely and efficiently.
  • You must hold a current RSA/RSG, RMLV and Approved Managers Licence in line with state requirements.

What would help you stand out includes experience beyond the basics and a readiness to lead with presence:

  • You’ve spent time around the bar, in the bistro, or on the gaming floor and may have supervised others along the way.
  • You’re comfortable stepping into a public-facing leadership role when the boss isn’t on site and you can be the face of the pub in those moments.
  • You bring confidence, pride, and people skills that help you connect with regulars and keep the floor buzzing in a friendly, respectful way.

What you’ll get and what it takes to fit in

The position is full-time and on-site in Nerang, aligned with Endeavour Group’s network through ALH Hotels. This is a path to grow your hospitality career within a large group that rewards strong leadership and guest focus.

Benefits include an exclusive discount card for ALH Hotels, BWS, Dan Murphy’s and other Endeavour Group brands, plus discounts at Woolworths supermarkets and BIG W through the Woolworths partnership. There is also Endeavour Wellbeing Support, an EAP service offering resources on incident support, career, conflict, nutrition and lifestyle, money, family, legal and employee assistance.

As part of the recruitment process, candidates may be asked to complete Employee Due Diligence checks, which can include a National Police Check.

Endeavour Group’s talent team notes to avoid unsolicited resumes from recruitment agencies, and the group is not responsible for fees related to any such unsolicited submissions.

Advice for applicants

Lead your resume with hospitality leadership on the floor. Put your bar, bistro, or gaming-floor experience front and center, especially if you’ve supervised before, and show how you’ve kept teams moving during busy shifts.

Make your must-have skills easy to verify. List your RSA/RSG, RMLV and Approved Managers Licence clearly, and be ready to demonstrate how you’ve used them in real-world scenarios and how you’ve stayed compliant on shift.

Prepare stories that match the role’s realities. Think about a time you managed a dinner rush, handled an unexpected issue on the floor, or maintained quality service while leading a team through a peak period.

Ask a targeted question that shows you’ve thought about this pub’s unique cadence. For example, inquire how the team plans for high-volume game nights and what leadership support exists during shift transitions to keep guests and staff aligned.
