BNZ is seeking an Associate Data Engineer in Auckland, full-time onsite, to support the development, monitoring and maintenance of analytical data products that meet BNZ’s business requirements and quality. The role involves gathering data requirements, exploring raw and conformed data, transforming with SQL or Python, and automating pipelines with Airflow, DBT and Fivetran, plus contributing to code peer reviews. You’ll join a collaborative, open, flexible Digital Data & Analytics team with a buddy onboarding approach and clear development plans. What are some of the day to day tasks the person in this role will complete?
The successful candidate is expected to build data products by:
Gathering and understanding data requirements and limitations
Exploring raw and conformed data Using SQL or python to transform data
Automating pipelines using data engineering tools such as Apache Airflow, DBT and Fivetran Completing code peer reviews

The team is made up of data engineers at all levels of experience who regularly share their recent projects, learnings and tips & tricks.

What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity?
Our data engineers have the flexibility to build data solutions that are efficient, fit-for-purpose and scalable. We have standards and frameworks to guide the engineers and are continuing to evolve as we learn from past experiences. We have a buddy system allowing new joiners to learn directly from an existing team member as part of our onboarding process. Individuals are also encouraged to work on their development plan, which may involve teaching or learning a new technical skill from another engineer.
This role provides lots of opportunities to develop skills and experience in an exciting area that is expanding.
What attributes will this person display in order to be successful in this role?
We are looking for someone with curiosity and a love of data combined with a love of programming to create data outputs and pipelines, along with:
Eagerness to focus on their development within the Data Engineering space
Highly Proficient in SQL or Python
A background in modern data engineering practices
The ability to translate technical information to a non-technical audience
Knowledge of an agile environment using DevOps practices
