Job Description

We are seeking an Associate to join our growing Public Sector Advisory team in Brisbane. KordaMentha works with governments, not‑for‑profits and the private sector on some of their most complex commercial and financial challenges, spanning transport, infrastructure, energy, international development, water and utilities, the environment, housing and real estate, defence and national security, health and education. Our clients are delivering policies and services that support Queenslanders to thrive in their communities, and our work helps enable those outcomes.

You'll be joining a team motivated by making a real impact, in a company that values diversity, different ways of thinking, and varied approaches to solving client problems — because we're stronger together. You will receive  mentorship from senior team members who are deeply involved in the work, while gaining exposure to senior leaders across the business.

You will work closely with senior team members to support public sector clients with strategy, reform, operating model design, business case development, organisational reviews and more. Public sector work spans a broad range of portfolios — from education, health and justice to economic and environmental initiatives — giving you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to complex, high‑impact projects while learning directly from experienced practitioners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong, trusted relationships with clients, regulators, universities and other external stakeholders. Support open communication and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Project Delivery: Work in a high performing team to deliver advisory engagements in a fast-paced client facing environment. Manage competing priorities and support timely, high-quality delivery across all project phases.
  • Deliverables & Insights: Prepare high quality client deliverables, including reports, presentations and workshops, across engagements such as: Business case development, Organisational review and redesign, Program design and evaluation, Operating model development & Strategic planning, preparing quality client deliverables — including reports, presentations and workshops.
  • Problem Solving & Analysis: Solve unstructured or ambiguous problems using logical and systematic problem-solving techniques. Synthesise complex information into succinct insights that inform rapid senior level decision making.
  • Firm Contribution: Comply with KordaMentha policies and Code of Conduct. Contribute to internal initiatives and activities that enhance team culture and firm capability.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years’ experience, with public sector consulting experience desired but not mandatory. Candidates with broader professional services, government or related industry experience are also encouraged to apply.
  • Tertiary qualification in Economics, Business, Commerce, Finance, International Relations, Politics or related discipline.
  • Strong written communication and report writing ability, with the capability to synthesise complex information for executive audiences
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and work independently with accountability.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook (PowerPoint essential).
