Job Impact: 

As an Aviation Screening Officer, you’ll play a critical role in safeguarding national aviation security based in Whyalla.

Your sharp observation skills and ability to stay calm under pressure will ensure the safe movement of passengers and cargo. You’ll operate advanced screening technology, perform physical inspections, and deliver exceptional customer service while maintaining compliance with strict security protocols. This is a role where your attention to detail and professionalism directly contribute to the safety of Australia’s skies. 

We are currently recruiting for: 

  • Multiple Permanent Part-time roles on a rotating roster 24/7 who are based in Whyalla

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • X-Ray Screening & Analysis: 
  • Operate X-ray equipment to detect prohibited items, interpreting complex images quickly and accurately. 
  • Physical Inspections: 
  • Conduct frisk searches, bag checks, and Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) procedures in line with aviation security standards. 
  • Access Control & Detector Monitoring: 
  • Monitor walk-through metal detectors and apply risk-based decision-making to maintain secure entry points. 
  • Customer Service: 
  • Provide calm, confident assistance to passengers and stakeholders during dynamic situations, ensuring a positive experience. 
  • Incident Response: 
  • Respond promptly to alarms, suspicious items, and emergencies, following established protocols. 
  • Reporting & Compliance: 
  • Maintain accurate screening logs, incident reports, and ensure adherence to CASA and aviation security regulations. 

Training – its on Certis!  

  • Certis will cover the cost of your training, including: 
  • ✔ Certificate II in Transport Security Protection (AVI20118) – a nationally recognised qualification 
  • ✔ 40 hours On-the-Job Training 
  • ✔ FREE ongoing learning and development through our LMS 
  • ✔ FREE staff parking and uniform provided 

Note: To progress into a permanent position, you must successfully complete the Certificate II and be deemed capable of making independent screening decisions. 


Qualifications: 

Mandatory

✔ Based in Whyalla

✔ Australian Citizen or Permanent Residency  

✔ Valid Driving Licence and access to a vehicle  

✔ Excellent communication and customer service skills 

✔ Professional presentation and strong understanding of security protocols 

✔ Ability to manage conflict and maintain professionalism under pressure 

✔ Ability to obtain and maintain Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)
