Bio Information Analyst at Auckland Council in Auckland, full-time onsite, permanent, within the Environmental Services Department's Bio Information team. Auckland Council’s Environmental Services Department has an opportunity for a Bio Information Analyst within the Bio Information team, part of the Natural Environment Specialist Services Group.

This is an opportunity to combine your passion for the natural environment with your expertise in geospatial technology, data management and information systems.

You’ll play an important role in helping us understand, protect and restore Auckland’s unique ecosystems by ensuring biodiversity, biosecurity and geological data is accurately captured, analysed and transformed into meaningful insights that support planning, operational delivery and decision-making across the region.

Working alongside environmental specialists, field teams and technical experts, you’ll help tell the story of Auckland’s conservation work through high-quality data, spatial analysis and innovative information solutions.

Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

• Managing, analysing and maintaining biodiversity, biosecurity and ecological datasets. 
• Providing geospatial advice and information management solutions to support conservation programmes. 
• Developing and maintaining ArcGIS systems, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online. 
• Supporting biodiversity reporting, including operational KPIs and Long-Term Plan measures. 
• Working with internal and external partners to communicate accurate, meaningful conservation data. 
• Opportunities to explore new technologies and approaches, including imagery and spatial analysis and emerging data solutions.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You’re someone who enjoys using technology and data to solve real-world environmental challenges. You have a strong interest in conservation and understand the value that accurate information and insights can bring to protecting and restoring natural environments.

You come from a geospatial, environmental science, biodiversity, biosecurity, data or information management background. You enjoy working collaboratively, solving problems and finding better ways to use information to support positive outcomes.

You’ll be comfortable working with complex datasets, communicating technical information clearly and building relationships with people across a range of disciplines.

We’re looking for someone with:

• Experience using ESRI ArcGIS tools (including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and/or ArcGIS Enterprise) and managing spatial information.
• Experience working with environmental, ecological or biodiversity datasets.
• A relevant tertiary qualification in environmental science, natural sciences, computer science, GIS or a related discipline.
• A good understanding of New Zealand ecology and natural systems, with the ability to interpret and communicate insights from data.
• Experience working collaboratively with stakeholders and translating technical information into meaningful outcomes.

It would also be advantageous if you have:

• Experience supporting biodiversity conservation, biosecurity or restoration programmes. 
• Experience with ecological analysis software or environmental monitoring data. 
• Knowledge of RMA processes or environmental legislation. 
• Experience with emerging spatial technologies, imagery analysis or drone data. 
• Experience working in local government, central government or another public sector environment.
