Booking Clerk, Medical Imaging
Providence HealthcareProvidence Health Care is looking for a Booking Clerk to join the Medical Imaging team in Vancouver, onsite and full-time. The role sits in the St. Paul’s Medical Imaging Department and keeps outpatient appointments, admissions and related communications moving smoothly for patients and clinical staff. Providence Health Care is one of Canada’s largest faith-based health systems, rooted in a mission to deliver compassionate, socially just and innovative care. The new St. Paul’s Hospital and health campus is planned to open in 2027, underscoring a commitment to advanced care, teaching and research. Providence acknowledges the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.
If you thrive in a collaborative healthcare setting and enjoy the rhythm of coordinating people, information and schedules, you’ll likely feel right at home here. This job is for someone who wants to make a practical impact behind the scenes, helping patients access imaging services while supporting doctors and nurses with timely information and smooth processes.
The role is onsite in Vancouver and comes with a standard expectation that hours may shift to fit operations, as noted in the posting, with potential testing and a criminal record check as part of the process.
A day in the life behind the scenes
You’ll manage appointment management by scheduling, adjusting and canceling visits for diagnostic work, providing patients with any pre-appointment instructions. You’ll also handle the flow of information by contacting physicians’ offices and nursing units to request records or test results and by confirming appointments with patients and sharing or sending required information to the right people.
Patient intake and administration form a big part of the day: interviewing patients to gather details, completing standard forms, entering data into health information systems and obtaining signatures on consent forms as needed. Reception duties sit alongside this work, including answering calls, greeting visitors, guiding inquiries and directing messages to the appropriate staff.
Files and paperwork are central to accuracy and readiness. You’ll set up and maintain patient files, verify that test results and documents are present, and review files for correctness. Your clerical duties will include typing, data entry, photocopying, scanning and faxing, plus preparing booking packages for operating rooms when required.
Scheduling for diagnostic tests, radiology and lab, will be a routine part of the role, with clear instructions provided to patients. When there’s downtime, you’ll follow procedures to manage it and compile operational statistics to support reporting. Keeping the workspace clean and organized, and ensuring equipment and surfaces are sanitized, rounds out the day. You may also help with related tasks and projects as needed.
