ENGIE is inviting a CFD Engineer to join its London team, with the work delivered through RED, a growing international M&E consultancy known for low-energy design. RED operates within the Tractebel family, which sits under ENGIE, and the London office collaborates across disciplines to help clients realise zero-carbon built environments.

The role centers on building and running Computational Fluid Dynamics models to support design decisions in areas such as data centre spaces, plant heat rejection and thermal comfort. From initial design documents to model construction, reporting and presenting findings to design teams and clients, you’ll deliver CFD work with a strong emphasis on clear communication and practical outcomes. It’s a good fit for someone who enjoys sharing knowledge, mentoring junior engineers and contributing to client-facing conversations.

Based onsite in London, this position suits engineers who pair solid technical CFD skills with straightforward, results-driven communication and a practical approach to problem solving. The environment values collaboration, ongoing professional development and opportunities to shape tools and methods through engagement with software providers.

From model to report: CFD in action

In this role you’ll assemble CFD models from design information, run simulations and interpret results to inform the next steps in a project. You’ll prepare reports and presentations that explain the modelling approach, inputs and assumptions, and clearly show what the findings mean for design development. You’ll also work with graduates, junior engineers and other CFD specialists, providing review and guidance to ensure high-quality outputs while keeping the conversation accessible to non-technical stakeholders. Collaboration with other design engineers and clients is routine, and you’ll help translate CFD insights into concrete design improvements and smarter decisions. The role also includes contributing to knowledge sharing, advancing calculation methods and best practices, and supporting marketing and client briefings when needed.

What it takes to join the team

  • A recognised engineering degree at bachelor’s, master’s or integrated master’s level in a relevant discipline
  • Either Chartered Engineer status already achieved or actively working towards it
  • A solid grasp of CFD modelling and how it’s used to assess performance and verify building regulation compliance
  • Experience or knowledge of CFD software packages used in professional practice
  • Proficiency with Cadence Reality DC Design Pro (formerly known as 6SigmaDCX) is expected
  • Ability to analyse CFD results through the lens of fundamental physics and convert findings into clear technical documentation that supports design decisions
  • CAD familiarity with SketchUp or Rhino 3D and solid MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong understanding of Building Regulations, BS/EN standards, CIBSE and ASHRAE guidelines
  • Ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines in a project-driven environment
  • Excellent written English and a knack for producing clear reports
  • Teamwork and collaboration come naturally
  • Solid grasp of health and safety issues and related legislation
  • Experience training junior engineers in CFD, energy analysis and sustainability topics
  • Background in consulting or construction is preferred
  • Understanding of international operations within a global consultancy
  • Ethical conduct aligned with the group’s Ethics Charter and Guidelines
  • OpenFOAM CFD modelling knowledge is a plus

Pay, benefits and practical details

The role is full-time and based on-site in London, with the role’s salary described as commensurate with experience. The employer offers a blend of benefits including hybrid working options, a contributory pension, and a healthcare scheme that is dependent on level. You’ll also find non-contractual bonus awards, training sponsorship, charity volunteering leave, wellness days and a collaborative team culture with mentoring from experienced leaders. As part of the RED Project Delivery Process, the role supports project management, financial management, QA/QC and technical reviews, while working in an environment that emphasises equal opportunities.

The listing notes that the role is ideally suited to individuals who have the right to live and work in the UK without restrictions.

Three steps to stand out for this CFD role

Lead your resume with your engineering degree and your Chartered Engineer status (or your clear plan toward it) so the panel sees you meet the core qualification early. Tie your CFD experience directly to performance assessment and building regulation compliance, and call out any projects where you translated CFD results into design changes that saved time, money or energy.

Demonstrate your proficiency with the tools this team relies on, especially Cadence Reality DC Design Pro, and mention any hands-on work with OpenFOAM if you have it. If not, show how quickly you’ve learned CFD software in past roles and how you’d approach picking up Reality DC Design Pro quickly.

Be ready to talk through a concrete CFD project, including the modelling approach, inputs, assumptions and how you communicated results to both technical and non-technical audiences. For interviews, prepare a short example of how you’d present CFD findings to a client or to a design team, and consider a thoughtful question about how CFD insights feed into the RED Project Delivery Process and the mentoring structure for junior engineers.

Send a targeted question at the end of your interview about how the team integrates CFD outputs into client-facing presentations and how ongoing professional development is supported within the team.
