Koninklijke BAM Groep (BAM) is seeking an experienced Works Manager to help deliver major energy infrastructure projects, with a clear emphasis on planning, coordinating and delivering complex earthworks packages. The posting notes work in the North East of Scotland, and the role is listed as onsite in London, England, so this is a hands-on leadership opportunity on the project site. BAM is a large construction group with a mission to build a sustainable tomorrow, and this role is a chance to lead on critical infrastructure with a strong safety and quality focus. The right candidate will thrive in a role that brings together large teams, subcontractors and programme delivery in a busy civil environment.

Working as part of a collaborative project team, the Works Manager will oversee day-to-day site operations, steering safety, quality and wellbeing while guiding activities to meet project standards. The role involves managing on-site supervision, subcontractors and the wider supply chain, ensuring records are kept up to date and that meetings covering safety, programme and commercial aspects are well-supported by the on-site team. You’ll be expected to present a professional image of both yourself and the company and to promote best practice in safety, quality and environmental management.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in earthworks, with proven experience managing large-scale site activities, subcontractors and programme delivery in a busy civil environment. This is a role for someone who can lead across the on-site workforce, develop forepersons and other team members, and maintain a professional standard of workmanship throughout the project lifecycle.

Groundwork leadership on major projects

You’ll lead total on-site supervision and hold weekly engagement with the team to support all activities. Health, safety, quality and wellbeing sit at the top of priorities, and you’ll play a key part in promoting and delivering safe systems of work and a culture aligned with BAM’s Vision and Values. The role calls for delivering a professional image of yourself and the company, setting a personal example and guiding meetings that reinforce safety and quality. Operational control extends to managing the on-site workforce, sub-contractors, supply chain and all site activities in line with company policies and legal requirements, while building a team capable of meeting the project’s scope. You’ll oversee the programme’s labour, plant and material needs, ensuring they’re adequately resourced and that delivery remains on track. Maintaining up-to-date operational records and participating in safety, programme, commercial and business meetings are all part of the job. You’ll be responsible for developing the workforce, identifying training needs and arranging essentials to keep the team competent and performing.
