Job Description

The team

As a part of the Cloud Enablement team, we address common cloud engineering challenges enabling teams to innovate and deliver solutions at speed and scale.

You will do plenty of hands-on coding and also have opportunities to help shape broader patterns and practices through the tools and platforms we design and implement across SEEK.

The team consists of Platform Engineers, Software Engineers and FinOps analysts who play an important role to keep our cloud platform stable, secure and optimised. We provide the building blocks to solve problems once for SEEK. We provide guidance to make it easier for teams to use cloud technology, supporting faster, more independent delivery and business transformation. The Senior Platform Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager in the Cloud Enablement team.

About the role

As a Cloud FinOps Engineer at SEEK, you will help engineering teams make better cloud cost decisions without slowing delivery. This is a hands-on technical role focused on optimising costs and strengthening governance to foster a cost-aware culture.

You will work across Engineering, Platform, Operations, and Finance to improve how we understand, forecast, optimise, and govern cloud spend. You will combine FinOps practices, cloud engineering knowledge, data analysis, and automation to help teams manage spend proactively and maximise the business value of cloud.

Responsibilities

  • Drive cloud cost optimization, including rightsizing, waste reduction, architectural improvements and commitment-based savings opportunities.
  • Develop reporting dashboards and actionable insights on cloud spending, cost trends, optimization opportunities, and financial performance.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Finance, and other stakeholders to align cloud resource usage with business objectives and budgets.
  • Participate in architecture and design reviews to ensure cost-efficient solutions are implemented early in the development lifecycle. 
  • Leverage AI tooling and workflows to automate insight generation and drive FinOps at scale.
  • Establish, support and automate recurring FinOps governance policies, processes, and best practices.
  • Investigate cost anomalies and fix them so they stay fixed.
  • Promote a cost-aware culture at SEEK by delivering FinOps best practice workshops.

Qualifications

Essential skills and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Finance, or equivalent professional experience.
  • AWS, GCP, and/or FinOps certifications.
  • Proficiency in scripting or coding languages (e.g. Python, Bash).
  • Hands-on experience with cloud cost management tools and services (e.g. AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, GCP Billing).
  • Experience with data analysis tools and building BI dashboards (e.g. Quicksight, Athena, SQL, BigQuery, Looker, Domo, Tableau, etc.).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and identify cost optimization opportunities.
  • Proven experience in a FinOps role, with an understanding of cloud cost management and corporate accounting processes (e.g. forecasting, invoicing, chargeback, accruals‚ etc.).
  • Ability to communicate effectively and deliver presentations to leaders. 
  • Open-minded collaborator with a growth mindset and a practical, can-do approach.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and DevOps practices.

Other skills and experience

  • Experience with FinOps for AI and AI for FinOps.  Experience managing AI/ML inference costs, API consumption, and token-based pricing across AI services, and experience with agentic AI solutions to provide automated insights at scale.
