Te Tūranga – About the role
We’re looking for a curious and inquisitive Commercial Analyst to join our Merchandise team!
In this role, you’ll work closely with a team of analysts and our Merchandise Buying teams to deliver high‑quality financial insights, reporting, and commercial support that drives category performance and strategic decision‑making.
What you’ll be doing:
Deliver commercial analysis and reporting to support Customer Driven Range reviews and supplier sourcing negotiations across selected categories and suppliers.
Support the Buying team by providing insight and recommendations that help shape negotiation strategies and commercial targets.
Participate in supplier negotiations, contributing analytical expertise to help secure targeted commercial outcomes.
Measure and report on post‑implementation impacts, delivering clear insights to Members and the Executive.
Provide ad‑hoc analysis and advice to guide commercial decisions across the Merchandise team.
Enhance reporting capability through effective use of BI tools and data visualisation.
Continuously challenge and improve business processes and policies, identifying opportunities to drive efficiency and better commercial outcomes.
He kōrero mōu - About you
You’ll bring solid experience in analytics, commercial analysis, or another data‑driven role, with strong technical capability across reporting tools. Confidence in Excel is essential, and any exposure to SAP, COGNOS, or Power BI will be a real advantage.
Experience within FMCG or Retail will set you up for success, especially if you’ve previously turned data into insights that influence commercial decision‑making.
You’ll be comfortable working with large, complex datasets—able to analyse, summarise, and translate them into meaningful insights that support improved business outcomes. High attention to detail is important, but so is your ability to step back and understand the broader picture.
A naturally proactive and curious mindset will see you digging deeper, asking the right questions, and continually seeking out opportunities to drive value. Collaboration comes naturally to you, yet you’re equally confident working independently and taking ownership of your outputs. You’re a doer—someone who can deliver high volumes of quality work at pace, adapt to shifting priorities, and respond quickly to incoming requests. Above all, your inquisitive nature and desire to keep pushing boundaries will make you a strong fit for this role.
