Hydro-Québec is looking for a Data Governance Advisor II to help govern data as a strategic asset across the organization. The role is a temporary assignment with indefinite duration, based in Montréal at 1001 Robert-Bourassa, with a hybrid work arrangement and a 35-hour week spread over five days, with some possibility of flexible hours. This position suits someone who enjoys turning data into value through governance, quality, and stewardship across large-scale technology initiatives.

Hydro-Québec has been producing renewable energy since 1944 and aims to mobilize the collective strength of Quebec to accelerate the energy transition, stimulate the economy, and build a sustainable future. The company emphasizes a safe, healthy work environment and leadership accountability for health and safety. The data governance discipline here is about turning data into reliable, governed assets that support decision-making and innovation.

If you like collaborating across teams, influencing how data is defined and protected, and shaping governance practices in a big utility, this could be a strong next step in your career.

Guiding data governance across the business

In this role, you’ll act as the data quality and governance expert for your division, shaping the governance framework, establishing standards, and maintaining an auditable process. You’ll build and maintain a data reference repository with clear data definitions and interrelations, set quality norms, and oversee an audit process that tracks data health over time. You’ll also plan and coordinate governance activities, including mandates and the development of training materials and practical guides to help teams apply the governance rules.

Part of the daily work is to support managers in collecting and analyzing process data, and to design and contribute to dashboards that monitor performance. You’ll keep a watchful eye on data integrity, propose directions to improve quality, and help define the rules of quality and data integrity in partnership with the data governance expertise unit. You’ll also lead or participate in working groups and committees as an expert, steering cross-functional efforts to maximise data value while keeping risk in check.

Your foundation for success

What Hydro-Québec needs to see in a candidate starts with formal education and substantial hands-on experience in data governance or data-related disciplines, plus a strong track record shaping governance in real projects.

  • A university bachelor’s degree in administration or a related field.
  • A practical record of six to nine years working in data governance, data management, or data sciences.
  • A deep understanding of data governance domains, including owners and stewards, metadata, data classification, quality, lineage, lifecycle, and data protection.
  • Experience configuring, deploying, and driving adoption of governance tools such as Collibra, Microsoft Purview, or Unity Catalog on Databricks.
  • The ability to translate regulatory and normative requirements into functional governance needs and verifiable controls, including references to applicable laws and security standards.
  • Proven skill in translating governance needs into requirements that can be embedded in large technology projects from design through operation.
  • Capability to assess data-related risk and propose proportionate mitigations that align with risk tolerance.
  • Knowledge of applying governance frameworks (for example, DAMA-DMBOK) within an organisational context.
  • A track record of offering innovative, cross-disciplinary solutions and coordinating with stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Awareness of data governance challenges in artificial intelligence, including data provenance, quality, and rights for training data, considered an asset.
  • Behavioural competencies in negotiation and conflict management, professional ethics and rigor, and clear, impactful communication.
  • Proficiency in French appropriate to the role.
  • A background that shows how you’ve applied data governance concepts in practice within multidisciplinary teams and complex environments is a plus.

The job is located in Montréal at 1001 Robert-Bourassa, and the workweek is 35 hours across five days, with occasional variability in scheduling. Hydro-Québec emphasizes a safe work environment as a core value, and the successful candidate will be subject to background checks in line with HQ-SC-N-1001, conducted by Mintz Vérifications mondiales.

Other practical notes include a hybrid and flexible approach to where and how the work gets done, aligned with the nature of governance activities and project demands. The posting has a closing date of 19 October 2026, so timely applications are advised.

Tips to stand out in your application

Lead with your strongest governance experience and your degree right at the top of your resume, then back it up with the exact years you’ve spent shaping data governance, quality programs, and data stewardship in complex environments. Make clear how you’ve turned regulatory requirements into concrete governance controls and how you’ve translated those controls into real project outcomes.

When you describe your qualifications, foreground concrete deployments of governance tools, say where you configured Collibra, Purview, or Unity Catalog on Databricks, and what value that work delivered. Tie your stories to Loi 25 or other security and information standards to show you can operate within Hydro-Québec’s policy framework and translate requirements into verifiable tests and dashboards.

Prepare to discuss a governance initiative from design through exploitation: how you defined data owners, established metadata definitions, tracked data lineage, and implemented a quality audit. Emphasize cross-functional collaboration, especially how you engaged stakeholders without formal authority and built consensus across teams with different priorities.

Consider asking a precise question that shows your strategic thinking, such as: what are the near-term priorities for Hydro-Québec’s data governance program, and how would this role contribute to measurable progress in the first six to twelve months?
