Air New Zealand is hiring Permanent Part Time Customer Service Agents to join the team at Invercargill Airport. The role is based on-site at Invercargill Airport in the Southland Region of New Zealand, ideal for people who love travel, helping others and working in a setting where no two days look the same. The company values an inclusive workplace and a friendly team atmosphere that helps you feel part of the operation from day one.

You’ll be part of a team delivering warm, welcoming service to ensure customers have a smooth travel experience. There are times of high pressure and tight deadlines, so adaptability and resilience matter as you support passengers through their journey. Every customer has their own story, and you’ll be there to help them along the way.

Along with day-to-day check-ins and passenger assistance, your role covers handling special requirements, supporting flight arrivals and departures, managing disruptions, and resolving queries. The work is varied and the environment is busy, which means you’ll need to stay organized and calm while keeping a professional, friendly tone.

In this part-time position you’ll accumulate between 36 and 72 hours across a fortnight, with shifts that rotate to fit business needs and flight schedules. The roster covers every day from 0500 to 2200, including weekends, nights and public holidays, so you’ll need to be flexible about when you work.

During a shift you’ll blend a range of customer service duties, from checking in passengers and assisting with special requirements to supporting arrivals and departures, handling disruptions and answering questions to keep passengers moving smoothly. The role rewards a steady, friendly approach and the ability to adapt as situations change in real time.

Pay, perks and practical details

The role offers a starting rate of $33.50 per hour. A set roster pattern helps you plan your days off and balance life, sport and other commitments, while a supportive team environment and clear paths for training and progression support your development. You’ll be working on-site at Invercargill Airport, in the Southland region, within the airport environment where no two days are the same. Shifts run between 0500 and 2200, and you will commit to between 36 and 72 hours per fortnight.

Tips tailored for your application

Showcase your frontline customer service experience in busy settings, with concrete examples where you kept customers calm and moved things along during peak periods. If you’ve worked in travel or airports, call that out clearly on your resume.

Demonstrate comfort with computer systems by naming tasks you’ve handled, remembering booking codes, managing bookings, and learning new software quickly. If you’ve trained yourself on a new tool, share a real example that highlights your adaptability.

Be prepared to discuss handling disruptions or delays and how you stay constructive and professional when plans change. Mention times you met deadlines or redirected customers smoothly under pressure to illustrate your problem-solving under stress.

Ask about how the roster pattern is managed and how it supports personal time-off planning. A smart question is to inquire how shifts rotate and how that pattern affects scheduling around holidays or major travel days.
