KiwiRail is hiring a Customer Host to deliver warm, professional on-board service for Scenic and Scenic Plus passengers in Wellington. This full-time, on-site role requires energy, endurance for long shifts, and the ability to lift up to 20 kg and assist with luggage while serving food and drinks, including alcohol. You should have customer service experience in hospitality or tourism, NCEA Level 3, a full NZ driver license, and cash handling confidence, plus a plan to obtain First Aid, Emergency Procedures, Food Hygiene and liquor licensing certifications. As a Customer Host, you’ll be the friendly face delivering an exceptional on-board experience for KiwiRail’s Scenic and Scenic Plus train passengers.

You’ll make every journey memorable by providing warm, professional service — from serving high-quality food and beverages to helping passengers with luggage and keeping them informed during disruptions. Your polished presentation and positive attitude will represent the very best of our brand.

This is a fast-paced, physical role on board a moving train, requiring energy, adaptability, and a genuine commitment to passenger care. Due to the nature of the position, we welcome applications from those aged 18 years and over.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide prompt, professional customer service to passengers throughout their journey
• Serve food and beverages (including alcohol), maintaining a clean and welcoming environment
• Offer tailored assistance, from luggage handling to safety updates during disruptions
• Maintain high standards of personal presentation to enhance the Scenic Plus brand

Ngā pukenga e rapu nei mātou | What you will bring:

We’re looking for individuals who thrive in customer-facing roles and bring energy and care to every task.

• Experience in customer service, ideally in hospitality or tourism
• NCEA Level 3 or equivalent
• Full, clean NZ Driver License
• Confidence in cash handling
• Ability to gain and maintain First Aid, Emergency Procedures, Tunnel & Gas Awareness, Food & Hygiene, and liquor licensing certifications
• Good physical health and the ability to meet our medical standards
• Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for great service
• Ability to work long shifts on your feet, lift up to 20kg, and move with ease on a train
• A flexible, can-do attitude and team spirit
