London, ENG

Google in London is offering a Data Center Facilities Technician Intern position for 2027. This onsite, 13-week, full-time program is designed for students or those enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program located in the EMEA region, with practical experience in mechanical/HVAC or electrical work in industrial or commercial environments. The opportunity targets people who want hands-on exposure to the kind of critical infrastructure that powers Google’s services.

Within Google’s Data Center Engineering group, the focus is on designing, building and maintaining the physical systems that keep data centers running efficiently and safely. The intern will train alongside seasoned technicians and help with the operation, maintenance and repair of essential electrical and mechanical systems, including HVAC, UPS, generators, and the control and monitoring systems that support data-center operations. It’s a role for someone who enjoys working with real equipment and solving tangible problems in a highly structured, safety-focused setting.

Inside the data center, step by step

During the internship, you’ll learn by doing, teaming up with experienced technicians to support the operation, maintenance and repair of critical electrical and mechanical systems such as HVAC units, uninterruptible power supplies, generators and the control networks that monitor these systems. A big part of the experience is learning to inspect, maintain and repair various data-center components, from piping to other electrical and mechanical elements, while you build the ability to read blueprints and schematics and participate in system tours. You’ll provide daily support to the team and, as you gain confidence, you’ll look for creative ways to improve operational efficiencies and cut costs, all while following Google’s strict health and safety policies. This is where you start building a solid technical foundation for a career in a mission-critical environment.

Google Cloud supports organizations in more than 200 countries and territories by delivering enterprise-grade solutions and tools that help developers build more sustainably. The internship sits at the intersection of cutting-edge infrastructure and practical, hands-on maintenance work, offering a clear path to understanding how data centers are kept both reliable and energy-efficient.

Foundations you bring and the extras that help you stand out

Must-have qualifications

  • You are currently enrolled in an educational program relevant to the job or in an accredited full-time Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program located in the EMEA region.
  • You have practical or internship experience in mechanical/HVAC or electrical work in an industrial or commercial environment.

Nice-to-have qualifications

  • Experience in data centers or other critical facilities, such as hospitals or power plants.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical or mechanical systems used in data centers, including feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS/STS units, and PDU/PMM units.
  • Familiarity with meters, devices, sensors and troubleshooting using standard hand tools, digital metering, or calibration/diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to complete a 13-week full-time internship in the London location starting in May, June, or July 2027.
  • Currently enrolled in your penultimate or final year of education.

Advice for applicants

Lead with the most relevant hands-on experience on your resume, especially anything in mechanical, HVAC or electrical work, and call out any data center or critical facilities exposure you have. If you’re in school, mention your expected graduation window and confirm you can commit to the May–July 2027 start window.

Show concrete proof of the must-have skills by detailing tasks you’ve completed: inspections, maintenance or repairs of systems, experience reading blueprints or schematics, and any work with piping or electrical distribution components. If you have used calibration tools, meters or diagnostic equipment, bring that to life with specifics and outcomes.

In interviews, be ready to discuss how you approach real-world maintenance tasks and safety policies, and how you would contribute to system tours and daily support for technicians. Be prepared to reference the exact systems mentioned in the posting, HVAC, UPS, generators and control/monitoring networks, and give examples of how you’ve solved problems or improved efficiency in similar environments.

Smart question to ask: what kinds of data center systems will you touch in the first weeks, and how is internship success measured in terms of improving operation efficiency or reducing costs at the London site?
