Data Center Technician Intern, 2027
GoogleGoogle is seeking a Data Center Technician Intern for 2027, with the role based onsite in London. This is a full-time internship designed for students who are in the EMEA region and enrolled in a related educational program, or pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree full-time. The Data Center Engineering team at Google works on the physical design and operation of the company’s data centers, aiming to improve energy efficiency and environmental sustainability through practical, hands-on work.
If you enjoy rolling up your sleeves to install, configure and troubleshoot hardware, and you’re curious about how networks and large-scale computing infrastructure stay up and running, this internship could be a strong fit. The experience is built around real-world tasks on the data center floor, giving you a chance to see how Google's infrastructure supports its services.
As part of the team, you’ll gain exposure to hardware installation and troubleshooting, work with server software such as Google's Linux cluster, and learn how to configure and manage network gear like routers, hubs, bridges and switches. There may be opportunities to assist with or lead small project teams on larger installations, providing a solid foundation in data center operations and network infrastructure.
Inside the data center floor
Day-to-day activity centers on helping install, configure and troubleshoot hardware, including servers and their components, alongside server software used within Google’s environment. You’ll also build practical skills configuring and maintaining network components, which helps you understand how data centers stay connected and responsive. In addition to hands-on work, you may be involved in moving equipment and mounting gear into racks, and there could be chances to participate in or lead smaller project efforts tied to larger installations.

Guidance for applicants
Lead with your current enrollment status and your location in the EMEA region on your resume, and highlight that you’re in a related program or in the penultimate or final year of study to align with the minimum qualifications.
When you describe your must-have skills, cite concrete examples from coursework or internships where you diagnosed and fixed issues in operating systems, server hardware, or networking protocols, and mention any hands-on hardware or Linux cluster work you’ve done.
Be ready to discuss hands-on data center tasks you’ve handled or could handle, such as equipment installation, rack mounting, and basic network gear configuration, and connect these experiences to a team or project you contributed to.
Ask a thoughtful question about the kinds of projects interns typically work on, whether there are opportunities to lead small teams on larger installations, or details about the Linux cluster used in Google’s data centers to show your interest in the day-to-day realities of the role.
