Deputy Mayor Communications Advisor, Auckland Council, full-time onsite in Auckland is a fixed-term role until August 2028. He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland's Deputy Mayor is looking for a communications advisor who can tell the story of the country's biggest council in a compelling and authentic way.

This is a hands-on role in a close-knit office. You will be on the tools every day, producing content. You'll work alongside the Deputy Mayor, helping shape public conversations about Auckland's future through compelling content, effective media engagement and authentic storytelling.

This role is about telling stories that cut through, not traditional corporate communications.

In this role you’ll be:

• A social media champion: Managing and growing the Deputy Mayor’s presence across social media platforms and guiding her on what works.
• A content creator: Filming, photographing and editing content at live events, often from an iPhone.
• An adaptable and authentic writer: Writing across a range from speeches, talking points, media statements, press releases, op-eds and other content.
• A media manager: Acting as first point of contact for media, coordinating responses, statements and interviews.
• A marcomms all-rounder: Who enjoys the variety of jumping between creative digital production, publicity (press releases, media liaison), and marketing toolsets.

You will bring practical experience in content production, social media, digital marketing, media relations or journalism.

You enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and thrive in a small, high-performing team.

You'll have the flexibility to work outside standard hours when events and media require it.

You build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and bring sound political judgement, discretion and good instincts.

You are confident engaging with media, managing enquiries, and preparing speeches, speaking notes and other high-quality communications at pace.

Above all, you will bring enthusiasm, initiative and integrity, with the ability to represent the Deputy Mayor's authentic voice.
