Digital Transformation Leader (Europe)

Department: Companion

Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Location: City, London

Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join CompanionCo at a pivotal stage of its growth, working closely with Moore Kingston Smith and other leading European firms, to shape and accelerate digital transformation across a fast-growing pan-European professional services group.

Job Title: Digital Transformation Leader

Location: Flexible within Europe. This role can be based in any country where CompanionCo operates, with regular travel across Europe.

About CompanionCo
CompanionCo is a pan-European professional services group, bringing together leading accounting, audit, tax, and advisory firms across Europe. Backed by Waterland Private Equity, the group is building a collaborative platform that combines strong local identities with the scale, capability, and reach of a European organisation.

The group includes established firms and current entities include Moore Kingston Smith (UK&I), Moore Belgium (BE), Moore DRV (NL), Auren (Spain) and Moore Intaria (Germany), with further expansion underway across Europe.

Each firm retains its entrepreneurial culture and deep local expertise, while working together through CompanionCo to support clients with increasingly international needs.

CompanionCo’s ambition is to become the leading mid-market professional services provider in Europe, particularly for growing and internationally active businesses. The focus is on practical, high-quality advice, cross-border collaboration, and creating sustainable value for clients, employees, and partners.

The central CompanionCo team operates as a lean, enabling function. Rather than replacing local leadership, it works in close partnership with country firms to support growth, integration, and collaboration across the group.

About the role

CompanionCo is establishing a group-wide Digital Transformation Task Force to accelerate digital, data, automation, and AI-enabled transformation across its European firms. To lead this agenda, CompanionCo is appointing a Digital Transformation Leader (Director level) at group level.

This is a senior, high-impact role with responsibility for shaping and coordinating a coherent digital transformation strategy across multiple countries, firms, and digital teams. The role does not replace local ownership. Instead, it connects, enables, and accelerates transformation by providing shared direction, governance, and collaboration frameworks.
Working closely with country-level Digital Transformation leaders, CIOs, and business sponsors, the role ensures that CompanionCo captures value from emerging technologies while managing risk, investment priorities, and change at scale.
The role reports into the CompanionCo leadership and works in close partnership with senior stakeholders across the group.

Key responsibilities

The Digital Transformation Leader will:
  • Define and coordinate a group-wide digital transformation strategy aligned to CompanionCo’s growth ambitions, including AI, automation, data, digital workplace, and shared platforms
  • Translate shared digital ambitions into a prioritised, transparent portfolio and roadmap across countries, highlighting interdependencies, synergies, and investment priorities
  • Establish pragmatic governance frameworks for portfolio management, business cases, benefits tracking, risk management, and reporting, enabling good decision-making without slowing innovation
  • Act as the central convenor for cross-border digital programmes, fostering collaboration, reuse of solutions, and sharing of best practice across firms
  • Support country teams in coordinating overlapping initiatives and making effective use of scarce digital and technical resources
  • Strengthen digital maturity across the group by improving standards, tooling, infrastructure, and skills
  • Champion change, adoption, and people impact, working with local change teams to ensure solutions are embedded and deliver real value
  • Encourage innovation through pilots and proofs-of-concept, supporting successful initiatives to scale across borders
  • Develop and embed a strong group-wide data and AI framework covering governance, quality, security, and responsible use
  • Provide clear, honest insight to CompanionCo leadership on progress, risks, opportunities, and emerging priorities

Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

We are open to different career paths and backgrounds. The successful candidate is likely to demonstrate:
  • Significant senior-level experience leading digital transformation in complex, fast-growing, multi-entity organisations, ideally within professional services or a related sector
  • Strong understanding of modern digital technologies, including data, automation, and AI, combined with commercial and strategic judgement
  • Proven experience working in international or cross-border environments with complex stakeholder landscapes
  • The ability to operate at both strategic and hands-on levels, focusing on execution and outcomes rather than visibility
  • Strong change management capability, with a track record of driving adoption and behavioural change
  • Excellent communication skills, able to engage credibly with both technical specialists and non-technical senior leaders
  • A collaborative leadership approach, able to influence and deliver within partnership-led and federated environments
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills in ambiguous, evolving environments
  • Fluency in English. Additional European languages are an advantage, but not essential

Private equity exposure is beneficial but not required.
