Steering the Services & Marketplaces engine in Australia and New Zealand

Google is looking for a senior leader to take on the Director, Services & Marketplaces role for the Australia and New Zealand region. The position sits within Google Customer Solutions and is based in Sydney, full-time and onsite. If you’ve built and guided large sales teams in fast-moving tech or platform environments, and you enjoy shaping strategy while coaching managers, this could be a fit.

In this role, you’ll sponsor and shape a diverse commercial sales organization that serves two-sided marketplaces, high-growth platforms, and service businesses across sectors like Fintech, Health, Education, and Professional Services. You’ll combine enterprise rigor with a growth operator’s instincts to drive AI-powered customer acquisition, improve client outcomes, and help Google unlock sustainable value for customers and the business.

What you’ll do day to day

You’ll lead a multi-layered team of sales professionals, setting a high-velocity culture that keeps customer success at the forefront while pushing for business growth. Part of your job is to design and scale commercial playbooks that work for two-sided marketplaces and distributed networks, helping clients balance supply and demand and lift long-term value across the client relationship. You’ll also push for the adoption of advanced marketing solutions powered by AI and measurement loops that favour privacy and rely on first‑party data integrations and offline conversion metrics. Throughout, you’ll position yourself as a trusted industry voice for executive clients, translating Google’s technology into tangible business outcomes aligned with their P&L and unit economics.

What we’re looking for in the ideal candidate

You’ll come with the core experience Google wants because you’ve spent at least 15 years in senior commercial roles that blend sales leadership, growth marketing, technology advisory, or enterprise media management, and you’ve done it in a matrixed organization or tech setting. A bachelor’s credential or the equivalent practical know‑how backs your career, and you’re comfortable traveling to meet clients and attend leadership forums as needed.

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent hands-on experience that demonstrates advanced capability
  • Fifteen years or more leading sales or growth initiatives across commercial, digital marketing, tech consulting, or enterprise media environments
  • Experience supervising people and managing managers within a complex, matrixed organization
  • Willingness to travel for client engagements and leadership sessions

Nice-to-haves that would help you stand out

  • Experience working in regulated sectors such as financial services, health, or education and navigating compliance frameworks
  • Knowledge of two-sided marketplace dynamics, lead-generation ecosystems, and full-funnel digital acquisition where conversion quality and offline outcomes matter
  • Familiarity with modern data architectures, first-party data strategies, CRM integration, and algorithmic bidding models tied to value
  • A track record of leading large, multi-tiered commercial teams across high-velocity, high-growth tech, digital media, or platform businesses

Pay, benefits and practical details

This is a full-time, onsite role based in Sydney, Australia. Travel to client sites and leadership forums is required as part of the role.

Advice for applicants

Lead with your experience running a large, multi-layer sales organization in a fast-growing tech or marketplace environment. Put your best examples of guiding managers and driving measurable outcomes at the top of your resume, showing how you improved performance through structure, coaching, and disciplined playbooks.

Show how you’ve navigated two-sided marketplaces or platform ecosystems, with concrete results in growing partner networks, balancing liquidity, and increasing end-to-end customer lifetime value. If you’ve deployed AI-powered marketing tools or privacy-aware measurement, highlight specific projects and the business impact they delivered.

Be ready to walk through your approach to commanding influence at the C-level. Prepare to discuss scenarios where you aligned technology capabilities with a client’s core economics, and how you measured success in terms of P&L impact and unit economics.

Ask a targeted question that shows you understand the AU/NZ market and Google’s focus: what are the top growth levers you want the new director to pull in the two-sided marketplace space in the next 12 months, and how will success be quantified for the region?
