The Disability Claims Coordinator completes the claim registration process including information and eligibility verification on all new claims for Group Early Intervention, Short Term Disability and Long-Term Disability and Individual EDGE claims. This positions also supports the Disability Case Managers by answering the Group Disability and Individual EDGE Individual Disability toll free line, processing, recording and following up on payments, and other administrative work including sending, sorting and processing communications.

 

How you will create impact:

  • Complete registration of Early Intervention (EI), Weekly Indemnity (WI), Long Term Disability (LTD) Claims and Individual Disability EDGE claims.
  • Verify eligibility by collecting billing information from the employer and premium admin, contacting employer, employee, Third Party Administrators (TPAs) and other group departments for additional information as necessary.
  • Establish the date of loss, disability cause and other qualifying data, contacting employers/TPAs, physicians/other treatment providers, and employees to ensure that accurate data is collected regarding the absence from work and other details regarding claim.
  • Determine if claim is a potential claim or a recurrent claim based on receipt of prior information and by reviewing recurrent provision and prior claim history for same diagnosis.
  • Responsible for answering calls (approximately 10-15 per day) on the Group Disability Claims and Individual EDGE claims toll free line from Employers, Employees, Third Party Administrators and Treatment Providers.
  • Initiate calls to physicians, claimants, government agencies and third-party administrators to follow up on required information for the disability file.
  • Issue stop payments and reissue benefit payments in the event of lost or incorrect payment information.
  • Review and send letters to claimants for Disability Case Managers as requests are submitted and as per the agreed upon mailing procedures for the applicable plan sponsor.

  • 1-2 years’ experience in group or individual insurance benefits/claims or related.
  • Completion of post-secondary technical diploma, Medical Language certificate is an asset.
  • LOMA 280 & LOMA 290.
  • Successful client service experience with a focus on information accuracy and quality.
  • Lean White Belt Certified.

Expected salary range $43,550 - $72,583

The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.​​

Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
