The Hermitage at Aoraki Mount Cook is hiring Driver Guides for Off Road Tours to lead 2‑hour high country adventures in a Mercedes Unimog, delivering engaging storytelling and safe guest experiences as part of the Activities team. You’ll perform vehicle checks and help coordinate hikes, lake trips, and stargazing. Essential: Full NZ Driver Licence Class 2 with P endorsement preferred or obtainable, prior driving or guiding/tourism hospitality experience, confidence with 4WD, and strong communication with guests. Must be able to work independently and in a team; first aid or willingness to train is valued. Live onsite with accommodation, 60 hours fortnight minimum, permanent or fixed term. Working as part of Activities team, our Driver Guides take guests on a 2-hour off-road adventure through exclusive high-country terrain in a custom-built Mercedes Unimog. With incredible views of Aoraki/Mount Cook, glacial riverbeds, and alpine landscapes, you’ll bring the region to life through engaging storytelling and exceptional service.
What you will be doing
• Lead guests on memorable off-road guided tours
• Deliver engaging commentary to showcase the region’s history and landscape
• Support guests throughout their off-road adventure
• Undertake daily operations, vehicle checks and cleaning to ensure tour readiness
• Ensure top-tier health & safety standards
• Collaborate across other guest experiences, including hikes, lake trips, and stargazing
What you will bring to the role
• Full NZ Driver Licence, Class 2 minimum, with P endorsement preferred or obtainable.
• Previous experience driving, guiding, tourism, or hospitality experience
• Confidence driving four-wheel drive or passenger vehicles
• Strong communication skills with passion for storytelling, and engaging people
• An ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Current first aid certificate / outdoor first aid or PHEC (optional), or the willingness to complete training.
• Knowledge in health & safety or risk management
