As our project portfolio continues to grow, we're looking for an Ecologist to join our national Natural Resources/Ecology team in Auckland. You'll work alongside experienced ecologists on a diverse range of freshwater, wetland and terrestrial ecology projects, contributing to meaningful environmental outcomes while continuing to develop your technical expertise within a collaborative, high-performing team.

This role is ideal for someone with a solid foundation in ecological consulting who enjoys fieldwork, technical problem solving and working in multidisciplinary teams. You'll support the delivery of ecological field programmes, biodiversity assessments and restoration initiatives, while building your experience across a broad range of projects.

Some of your key responsibilities include:

  • Undertake ecological assessments across freshwater, wetland and terrestrial environments.
  • Plan and carry out ecological field surveys and monitoring programmes.
  • Prepare ecological reports, impact assessments and technical documentation.
  • Support project delivery by contributing to technical outputs and meeting project milestones.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across transport, water and infrastructure projects.
  • Assist with proposal preparation and other project-related documentation as required.
  • Stay up to date with biodiversity policy, legislation and industry best practice.
  • Travel throughout New Zealand to undertake fieldwork as required.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years' professional experience in ecological consulting.
  • Experience undertaking freshwater, wetland and/or terrestrial ecology projects.
  • Strong ecological survey and fieldwork experience.
  • Good technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage your own workload while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
  • Experience using GIS software (ArcGIS preferred).
  • Knowledge of New Zealand biodiversity legislation, ecological assessment methodologies and restoration practices.

Additional Information

Our Ecology team is collaborative, supportive and genuinely enjoys working together. We've built a strong culture with excellent staff retention, where people are trusted, encouraged to grow their careers and given the opportunity to work on projects that have a lasting environmental impact.

You'll work alongside experienced technical specialists on some of New Zealand's most significant infrastructure and environmental programmes, with opportunities to expand your expertise across transport, water, ecological restoration and biodiversity projects.
