Canadian Natural Resources is offering a 12-month Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering Student role at the Albian Oil Sands site in Fort McMurray. You will support the Instrumentation Engineering Team across operations, maintenance and construction, gathering field data, developing work packages, assisting with commissioning questions and helping translate operations needs into deliverables, all in a safety sensitive onsite setting with a 4 days on, 3 days off, 10 hours per day schedule. The ideal candidate is enrolled in Electrical Engineering or within a year of graduation, has a valid Class 5 Alberta license with a clean driving record, and any prior engineering or field experience is a plus.   • Job location: Fort McMurray, Alberta – Albian Oil Sands Site
  • Shift schedule: 4 days on, 3 days off, 10 hours per day (Monday – Thursday)
  • Term length: 12 months
  • Term start: January 2027
  • Safety sensitive position: Yes

Key Accountabilities:

  • Assist the Instrumentation Engineering Team in activities relating to operations, maintenance or construction support
  • Collaborate with project and operations teams to ensure proper alignment with operations needs and requirements
  • Review assets and data to see where we can improve the frequency of maintenance and be able to improve our uptime on equipment
  • Assist engineers in producing Engineering and construction work packages
  • Gather field measurements & data to assist engineers
  • Work along with E&I maintenance team to troubleshoot field instrumentation and automated valves performance issues. 
  • Assist construction and maintenance teams with field installation and commissioning related queries, in consultation with Engineers. 
  • Assist in checking designs executed by engineering contractors
  • Assist in evaluation of equipment purchase specifications
  • Coordinate with various disciplines and departments within Operations or Major Projects to resolve engineering issues
  • Interface with project and operations teams to ensure proper alignment with operations needs and requirements
  • Assist with creating and maintaining project deliverables such as Lessons Learned Logs, Request for Information forms, Technical Deviation Requests
  • Develop engineering drawings and construction work packages

What You Bring to The Role:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Electrical Engineering or within one year of graduation
  • Previous engineering experience is considered an asset
  • Previous field experience is an asset
  • Possess a valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license or equivalent out-of-province license, a reasonably clean driver's abstract, and the ability to safely operate work trucks
