Electrician
Kennards HireKennards Hire, the largest family‑owned equipment hire company in Australia and New Zealand, is hiring an Electrician to join its Penrith Site Services team on a permanent full‑time, onsite basis. The business has a long history, established in 1948, and now operates across more than 200 sites with around 2,000 team members. It values practical, reliable people who like hands‑on work and making a real contribution to the local community.
In this role you’ll care for diesel‑powered generators, electrical distribution gear and other electrical appliances, keeping equipment in serviceable condition and ready for hire. It’s a busy job that blends on‑site repairs with the paperwork and standards Kennards uses to ensure reliability and build strong customer relationships. If you’re practical, enjoy variety and take pride in steady, careful workmanship, you’ll likely fit in well.
On offer is a permanent, full‑time on‑site position in Penrith that sits at the heart of Kennards Hire’s service model. The role suits someone who is hands‑on, dependable and comfortable working with customers when the role sits in a general hire branch. You’ll be part of a team that supports both customers and colleagues, with access to the tools and backing you’d expect from a large, long‑standing family business.
A day in the life on site
You’ll perform operational electrical equipment repairs and servicing on customer sites as required, and complete the documentation that confirms equipment is serviceable in line with Kennards’ Ready for Hire standard. In addition, you’ll help ensure quality work aligns with the company’s Quality Operational Management standards. When you’re based in a general hire branch, you’ll also handle direct customer contact and service in that setting, and you’ll contribute to branch facilities cleaning and maintenance as needed. You’ll take on reasonable tasks from the Branch Manager or Area Management team to keep operations running smoothly.
What you’ll bring to the team
- A recognised electrical trade qualification.
- At least three years’ hands‑on experience in a similar maintenance role with a proven track record of servicing and maintaining equipment; generator work is a bonus but not essential.
- Flexibility to cope with changing priorities and a capability to work well in a team or on your own to meet deadlines.
- Strong time management with the ability to plan ahead as priorities shift.
- Clear communication: you follow directions, ask questions when needed and share information with colleagues proactively.
- A valid driver’s licence.

Four practical tips to stand out for this electrician role
Put your recognised electrical trade qualification and the three years of hands‑on experience right at the top of your resume so a recruiter can see you meet the core must‑have criteria immediately.
Back up your application with concrete examples of equipment maintenance and servicing you’ve performed. If you have any generator work, name it and explain the outcomes you achieved to demonstrate impact.
Be ready to discuss how you adapt to changing priorities, including times when you worked in a team and when you operated autonomously to hit deadlines. A short, specific story helps illustrate these capabilities.
Ask about how Kennards Hire measures success on site, especially around Ready for Hire and QOM standards, and what the first 90 days look like in the Penrith location.
