An opportunity for a Design Engineer to support Wellington Water’s design acceptance process and capital projects, delivering design reviews, stakeholder coordination, risk management, contract administration and construction quality assurance from our Petone office in Lower Hutt. This permanent, full-time role (40 hours) offers development opportunities, an inclusive team culture and flexible work options with up to two days from home. This is a permanent full-time position of 40 hours per week.

The opportunity

As a Design Engineer, you will provide support to Wellington Water’s design acceptance process, design projects and provide project management services on capital projects. You will further enhance your technical expertise and provide advisory and other support services that the Design team offers to the wider business to ensure water services meet high standards and regulatory requirements.

An Engineer in the Design Team must have strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to work collaboratively with other team members on deliverables, by drawing on engineering fundamentals for the development of solutions to complex engineering challenges.

Day to day, you will get to:

  • Provide support to the Design Lead

  • Attend design review workshops

  • Manage and collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders.

  • Deliver three waters infrastructure design

  • Investigate solutions, analyse options and provide recommendations

  • Identify and manage risks arising from projects

  • Provide contract administration support

  • Execute construction monitoring and quality assurance activities

 

About you

To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • A Batchelor of Engineering (preferably Mechanical, Chemical or Civil Engineering) or equivalent Diploma recognised by the Washington Accord

  • A good understanding of project management fundamentals

  • Strong relationship management skills

  • Analytical skills and able to manage data to inform and make meaningful decisions

  • The ability to work in a collective and collaborative environment

  • An understanding of water supply, wastewater and stormwater systems and projects.
