Buckeye Broadband is recruiting for a Field Service Technician I to join its onsite team in Starkville, Mississippi. The role echoes MaxxSouth Broadband’s focus on delivering fast fiber speeds, reliable TV and voice services, and locally minded customer care. It’s a hands-on, customer-facing position that welcomes someone who wants to start a career in field tech with clear room to grow.

In this job you’ll install and activate fiber and coax drop systems from the tap all the way into a customer’s home, making sure grounding, signal termination, and electronics placement are done correctly. You’ll also take time to explain how customers should use their home equipment. Work happens outdoors and indoors, so you’ll prepare for varying weather and environments as you move between jobs.

As the Universal Technician I, you’re starting a three-tier path with the potential to advance to Universal Technician II within about three months after completing SCTE coursework. The program is designed to build hands-on skills and expand technical know-how as you progress.

Connecting homes, one install at a time

Your daily work centers on planning and carrying out installations based on customer orders and technical specifications, including setting up new connections, handling reconnects and disconnects, and configuring customer premise equipment (HD, DVR, and DIG). You’ll bring high-speed data services, wireless systems, and fiber to the home to life, including components like ONTs and streaming devices. Reading and interpreting system design maps and blueprints helps you document configurations, while diagnostic steps and tests confirm that service is performing as expected. Safe operation of the company vehicle and equipment, along with careful inventory management, are part of keeping service levels dependable, all while following company policies and safety guidelines.

  • A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent credential is required

  • About one year of experience in the telecommunications field is preferred

Compensation and practical details

The employer offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, with support for ongoing training and certification. This is a full-time, onsite role based in Starkville, Mississippi, and it places you on a locally rooted team that aims to deliver top-tier fiber speeds and 24/7 local customer care.

Tips for applicants

Lead your resume with any formal electronics training or SCTE/NCTI credentials you hold, and highlight any telecom-related hands-on work you’ve done, especially installations, troubleshooting, or customer-facing tasks.

When you describe your must-have skills, give a concrete example of planning and executing a network installation from start to finish, including how you interpreted maps or blueprints and how you tested circuits or equipment to verify service.

Be ready to talk about safety and policy awareness during interviews, how you follow EEO and safety guidelines, and how you handle outdoor or challenging weather conditions while working with customer equipment and company vehicles.

Ask about the certification path and the three-month advancement window to Universal Technician II, including what SCTE coursework or hands-on training you’d complete first and how progress is assessed.
