General Purpose
The Department of Chemistry is a dynamic academic unit within the College of Computational, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, supporting approximately 6,000 undergraduate students annually, more than 60 graduate students, 19 faculty members, and 15 regular full-time staff. The department manages a diverse portfolio of teaching, research, outreach, and service activities, with an annual operating budget of approximately $6 million and a research enterprise comprising approximately 70 grants.
Reporting to the Administrative Officer, the Financial Clerk plays a critical role in supporting the department's financial and operational activities. The position is responsible for coordinating and administering the purchasing process for teaching laboratories, stockroom operations, administrative functions, and specialized departmental facilities, including the Electronics Shop and X-ray Facility.
Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with University financial policies, procurement guidelines, and requirements of external funding agencies. The role provides guidance and support to faculty, staff, and students on purchasing, travel, expense reimbursement, and financial administration matters.
Working closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers, the Financial Clerk contributes to the effective stewardship of departmental funds, supports budget forecasting and financial reporting activities, and assists with the continuous improvement of departmental financial and procurement practices. Assist also with the administration of the Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre UK, Canadian Division for 30 site licenses across Canada. Book travel and accommodations as needed. Prepare outbound courier paperwork as requested and assist the Administrative Officer with special projects.
