Westpac in Auckland is seeking a Financial Crime Investigator for a fulltime onsite or hybrid role to help prevent fraud, money laundering and terrorist financing. You’ll run end-to-end investigations, interview victims and witnesses, gather evidence, and make remediation recommendations while upholding bank and industry standards. The role rewards integrity, strong process discipline, and the ability to build solid relationships within Westpac and with external agencies. Mō te tūranga | About the Role
This is a role where you can positively contribute towards investigating and helping to prevent fraud, money laundering and terrorist financing.
Reporting to an Investigation Manager, you’ll conduct investigations into a range of different incidents including fraud, scams, criminal acts, money laundering and terrorist financing that may result in financial loss or reputational harm against the Bank. This will involve full, end-to-end investigations which include interviewing, taking statements from victims, witnesses or suspected offenders, as well as seeking and monitoring remediation or reparation.
As a subject matter expert, you will also answer questions from Westpac employees or customers, it’s all about the detail.
In this autonomous and detail-driven role, your integrity and understanding of process and procedure will be your biggest assets. You’ll ensure your interviews and evidence are handled according to Bank and industry standards. You’ll also identify systemic or procedural failures and make recommendations for strengthening the control environment. You will have good networking skills and have the ability to build strong relationships both within Westpac and with external agencies.

What you’ll need to succeed:
Ideally you will bring significant experience working in an Investigative role in financial services, government, or law enforcement organisation
Sound knowledge and experience in the Investigation process
Ability to identify and gather evidence, and make decisions accordingly
Passionate about making recommendations for procedural improvement
Strong communication skills, including ability to develop and deliver investigative training to the team and wider business
Ability to be a team player, mentor and coach fellow team members
Exceptionally strong stakeholder management skills
The ability to demonstrate resilience, embrace challenges and change in an ever evolving industry
Tertiary qualification in IT, Law, Commerce, Criminology or ACAMS/ACFE qualifications would be advantageous
