About the role | Mō te tūnga
As a Financial Reporting Accountant, you will be part of MSD’s Financial Accounting team. The team is responsible for making sure MSD meets its financial reporting requirements and manages public funding in line with government expectations and the Public Finance Act.
In this role, you will help prepare accurate and timely financial reports for both internal and external audiences. You will provide specialist financial accounting advice, support good financial practices, and help ensure our reporting is consistent and of a high quality.
You will develop strong knowledge of MSD’s financial systems and processes and share your expertise with others across the organisation. Working closely with your manager and colleagues, you will contribute to improving financial reporting and accounting practices while supporting sound decision-making.
You will also provide guidance and support to other members of the Financial Accounting team, including Accounting Assistants, and work collaboratively to deliver quality outcomes for MSD.
What you bring | Ōu pūmanawatanga
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Proven experience providing financial advice and supporting informed decision-making in a large and complex organisation, ideally within the public sector.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, reconciliations, and public sector reporting requirements, including an understanding of the Public Finance Act, Treasury guidance, and current financial reporting standards.
- Experience working with financial management information systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills, with the ability to analyse data, identify trends, and ensure the accuracy and reliability of financial information.
- A tertiary qualification in Accounting and membership of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), or an equivalent international professional accounting body.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and professional reports and explain financial information to a range of audiences.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex information, identify key issues, and recommend practical solutions.
- Strong attention to detail, sound judgement, and a high level of accuracy in your work.
- Well-developed planning and organisation skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing demands.
- A proactive, positive, and collaborative approach, with the ability to build effective working relationships and gain the confidence of colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
