Advice for applicants
Lead your resume with proof you’ve managed front office duties in a hotel environment and that you’ve guided a team through busy periods while maintaining guest service excellence. Show how your leadership is practical and hands-on, with examples of how you led by example to improve guest experiences and team performance.
Demonstrate the must-have skills by weaving concrete anecdotes into your cover letter or interview responses. Highlight times you adapted to changing service demands, collaborated across departments or with external partners, and used Excel or other Office tools to track performance or inventories. If you have a notable achievement in reducing costs while sustaining service quality, quantify it.
Be ready to talk through real front desk scenarios, including how you would handle a difficult guest query or complaint, how you prioritise tasks during peak hours, and how you balance guest expectations with operational constraints. Prepare a short story that illustrates your problem-solving process and your ability to maintain composure under pressure.
Think of a thoughtful question to ask that connects to the job duties. For example, you could ask about how the guest engagement programme is designed to incorporate environmental and conservation matters, or how the front office team collaborates with other functions to meet department goals and audit requirements. A good question shows you’re thinking about the role within the larger hotel operation and its evolving priorities.
