Civil Quantity Surveyor (QS) – Job Description

A Civil Quantity Surveyor (QS) is responsible for managing the costs and contractual aspects of civil construction projects. They prepare quantity take-offs, cost estimates, budgets, tender documents, and payment applications while ensuring projects are completed within budget and in accordance with contract requirements. They work closely with project managers, engineers, clients, consultants, and subcontractors to monitor project costs and maximize value.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare quantity take-offs and cost estimates from construction drawings and specifications.
  • Develop Bills of Quantities (BOQs), tender documents, and cost plans.
  • Evaluate contractor and subcontractor quotations and prepare bid comparisons.
  • Monitor project costs, budgets, and cash flow throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare interim payment applications, progress valuations, and final accounts.
  • Measure completed work and verify subcontractor claims.
  • Manage contract administration, including variations, claims, and change orders.
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, consultants, and clients on commercial matters.
  • Maintain accurate cost records, reports, and project documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with contract conditions, company procedures, and relevant construction standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
  • Experience in quantity surveying for civil construction projects.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and quantity surveying or estimating software.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, BOQ preparation, cost estimation, and contract administration.
  • Familiarity with FIDIC or other standard forms of construction contracts is an advantage.
